Symbols of the Altai Republic

The Altai Republic is a sovereign region of the Russian Federation with its own state attributes: a flag, a coat of arms, an anthem, and a legislative assembly, named El Kurultai.

The state flag of the Altai Republic is an official symbol of state authority personifying the sovereignty of the Altai Republic in a structure of the Russian Federation. It represents a rectangular panel with four horizontal stripes. Two colors of the flag of the Altai Republic correspond to colors of the State Flag of the Russian Federation and emphasize that the Altai Republic is a subject of the Russian Federation. The light-blue stripes are a symbol of the cleanliness, sky, mountains, rivers, and lakes of Altai. The white stripes symbolize eternity, aspiration to revival, and love and consent of the peoples of the Altai Republic.

The national coat of arms of the Altai Republic is a symbol of the state sovereignty, and expresses historical traditions, features of territories and living peoples. It represents a light-blue circle bordered with a narrow stripe of the golden color. It is a symbol of Altai's everlasting sky. Against a light-blue background there are:

-A three-peaked top of one of the highest mountains of Central Asia, in the top of the light blue circle, which symbolizes the beauty and power of the motherland.

-A griffin, in the center, with the head and wings of a bird and the body of a lion, which symbolizes a saintly sunny bird, guarding the peace, calmness, happiness, and wealth of the motherland.

-An ornamental image, at the bottom of the circle, of the two largest Altai rivers: the Katun and the Biya with their tributaries.

- A tripod between them is a symbol of the native land, fortress, and the eternity of the native house. The wavy lines under the tripod represent a hearth - a symbol of Teletskoye Lake (the Golden Lake).
