Test tubes Mass balance(to 2 de c places)

45 ml of carbon peroxide 5 % measuring cylinder

Gm of apple

Beakers

Watch glasses

Experimental Set up

Method.

1.Weight 5 2g of apple

2. Measure 15 ml of carbon peroxide 5%

3. Using 5 2 g of apple, make 2 g into little peaces and than put into test tube

4.Make this for 5 times

5.Add 3 ml of carbon peroxide into each tube.

6.Take 5 beakers with water of 300C, 400C,500C,600C,700C

7. Put 5 test tubes in one baker.

8.Check 10 min.

9.Measure the volume of “bubbles”

10.If you haven’t got enough time put 1 ml of soup into each test tube

11.Make this test more than 3 times.

Results.

observations

Put into water of: Observation of apple’s reaction after 10 min when we added it to carbon peroxide 5 %.
30 0C Little “bubbles”.
400C Little bit more “bubbles”
500C The “bubbles” are more than in 400C
600C A lot of “bubbles”
700C The “bubbles“ are high
Test The cm of the “bubbles”
  Trial1 Trial2 Trial3 Average trial
300C 0.15 cm 0.2cm 0.3cm 0.22
400C 0.4cm 0.4cm 0.5cm 0.37
500C 0.6cm 0.8cm 1cm 0.8
600C 0.8cm 1 cm 1.6cm 1.14
700C 1.3cm 1.4cm 2 cm 1.57

The effect of temperature on the rate of the reaction

From the graph we can know how the high of “bubbles” changed on different temperatures and how they changed during 3 tests.

Conclusion

It can be seen that if temperature higher the changes of “bubbles” are higher. The bubble –the reaction of catalyzing hydrogen peroxide by the enzymes. So if “ bubbles” are higher it means that the reaction is faster.

It agrees with my hypothesis that the reaction of catalyzing hydrogen peroxide by the enzymes will be faster if the temperature is higher and the reaction will be slower if temperature is lower.

Evaluation

All the measurement was repeated 3 times. This measurement shows the high of “bubbles”-the reaction of catalyzing hydrogen peroxide by the enzymes. This experiment should be repeated more times to know exactly right results. The difference could due to difficulty in reading the results of thermometer accurately. It is very hard to make exactly the same pieces of apple. One of the problems with the experiment is that you need to check time exactly after the moment when you put your test tube in water of special temperature. Next time I would use soap to make my reaction faster because in this experiment you need a lot of time to check right results and write them and don’t forgot about time.
