Mantsinen has designed a new model, where the basic machine rises above the railway carriage and the machine’s tracks stand on both sides of it.

“The competitive advantages of this model are direct visibility inside the closed wagon and shorter working cycles.”

Mantsinen is expanding its consultancy services, exporting its Finnish expertise to markets such as Russia and the Baltic states. Customers’ needs are evolving steadily, Lehto says. “These days customers require consultancy services too. When they handle products themselves, they need training and instruction in handling procedures.

“But we are also seeing tougher demands for information. The customer needs the right information and needs it quickly. In future, Rauma Stevedoring is developing new IT systems that will allow our customers to download accurate information.

“We are planning to introduce a track and trace system for our forest products customers, allowing them to see exactly where their paper rolls are. We plan to install these new systems next year that will give the customer similar visibility to that which is becoming common in container shipping.
