1._______For hundreds of years, this country has symbolized the great escape into a tropical paradise. It is known for its Carnival usually held in late February. The local people entertain visitors with their energy, fantasy and joy. There are great spots for hang-gliding near Pepino beach. Surfing is popular all along the coast and waves are especially good in Santa Caterina. Wind-surfing has also caught on here. Sailing is big in Búzios and off the larger resorts along the coast. Inland, Goiás and Tocantins is known as a fishing paradise. There are excellent opportunities for rock climbing in the national and state parks, and hiking is great along the coast and in some of the national and state parks. Football (soccer) is the national obsession, and if you can play the game or talk about it meaningfully you'll become an instant hit with the locals.

The waters teem with underwater life and the corals, and fish come in all sorts of vivid colors and shapes. Camel and jeep safaris are also popular, either in the Western Desert with its fantastic sand landscapes or in the rugged, rocky surrounds of Sinai.

There's usually one lift in working order and a place to hire gear. This country is not famous for its beaches, but there are popular beach centers with acceptable swimming in Goa. Camel treks can be arranged in the deserts around Jaisalmer and Pushkar in Rajasthan. The best season is between October and February. If camel trekking leaves you feeling scorched and sore, try white-water rafting. Trips can be organized in Leh.
