Money and its Function

Money is used by a society to buy and sell goods and services to measure value and to store wealth. Different groups or people have used all sorts of objects as money – teeth, bones, beads, gold and silver. Today the most commonly used objects are metal coins and paper bills.

For money to have value, it must perform certain functions, it must be easy to use, and it must be trusted. Money has three main functions in any society.

Serves as a Medium of Exchange. Money the medium of exchange, is used in one half of almost all exchange. Workers exchange labour services for money. People buy and sell goods in exchange for money.

Serves as a Measure of Value. Money serves as a measure of a value because the prices of all products and resources are started in terms of money. Money is used as a yardstick for all bookkeeping, budgeting and management.

Represents a Store of Value. Money is a store of value because it may be help and spent later, it is a means for retaining and accumulating wealth.

Although anything can serve as money, the material should have the fallowing qualities, stability, portability, thinking it will be worth less tomorrow.

Stability. The value of money should be more or less the same today as tomorrow. In societies where the value of money fluctuates (goes up and down), people will save it in hopes its value will increase, or spend it immediately thinking it will be worth less tomorrow. Either could be harmful to the economy.

· Portability. Modern money has to be small enough and light enough for people to carry.

· Durability. The materials chosen must have a reasonable life expectancy. For that reason most countries use high-quality paper.

· Uniformity. Equal denominations of money should have the same value. People could become confused if some quarters or dollar bills were worth more than others.

· Divisibility. One of the principal advantages of money over barter is its ability to be divided into parts. In other words making change for a dollar is easy; making change for a chicken is not.

· Recognizability. Money should be hard to copy and easy to recognize for what is is.

Гроші використовуються суспільством для купівлі і продажу товарів і послуг, для вимірювання цінності і заощадження. Різні групи людей використовували всілякі предмети, як гроші - зуби, кістки, бісеру, золото і срібло. Сьогодні найбільш часто використовувані об'єкти металеві монети і паперові гроші.

Щоб гроші мали цінність, вони повинні виконувати певні функції, вони повинні бути просі у використанні, і вони мають бути довіреними. Гроші мають три основні функції в будь-якому суспільстві.

Слугує в як засіб обміну. Гроші засіб обміну, використовується в одній половині майже всіх обмінів. Робочий обмін трудових послуг за гроші. Люди купують і продають товари в обмін на гроші.

Слугує в якості міри вартості. Гроші служить мірою вартості, оскільки ціни на всі продукти і ресурси запускаються в грошовому вираженні. Гроші використовуються як критерій для всіх бухгалтерських обліків, бюджетування та управління.
