Pupil 1: Today we are going to wide and deep world of the English language and the British poetry, because, as one of the wise men said, “ The Language of Poetry is the Language of the Nation “
Pupil 2: What are the British without their beautiful English language and their Shakespeare, Burns and Byron?! Britain gives the world plenty of outstanding writers and poets. Most of them are still very popular. So today we want you to meet the most famous poets of the English – speaking literature. They lived long ago and live now, but we know them all. One of the main theme of their poems is love, because it is the most wonderful thing in the world. So, first of all …
Pupil 3: William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford – on Avon. William got good education at a grammar school. Later he went to London. He became an actor, later he began to write plays and sonnets. He also found theatre “ The Globe “. Shakespeare wrote 37 plays, 154 sonnets and 2 poems. He lived in Stratford – on Avon the last years of his life. Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616.
Pupil 4 (recites the 21 –st sonnet):
My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun,
Coral is far more red than her lips red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun:
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks,
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound.
I grant I never saw a goddess go.
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground.
And get, by heavens, I think my love is rare
As any she believed with false compare.
Pupil 5: Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759 in a poor family in Scotland. Robert studied at
home. He wrote poems about his country and its people. Burns lived only 37 years.
Pupil 6 (recites his poem “ A Red, Red Rose “):
O my love’s like a red, red rose,
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my love’s like a melody,
That’s sweetly play in tune.
As fair art there, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love I am.
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till all the seas go dry.
Till all the seas go dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt with the sun;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands of life shall run.
And fare thee well, my only love!
And fare thee well, awhile!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousands mile.
Pupil 7: George Gordon Byron was born on January 22, 1788 in an old aristocratic family in the Scottish town of Aberdin. He studied at a grammar school in Harrow and did it well. At 17 George entered Cambridge University. Byron wrote a lot of poems. He was very active during his life. He died in 1824.
Pupil 8 (recites his poem):
And both were young, and one was beautiful;
And both were young, yet not alike in youth,
As the sweet moon in the horizon’s verge,
The maid was on the eve of womanhood.
The boy was fewer summers, but his heart
Had outgrown his years, and to his eye
There was but one beloved face on earth,
And that was shining of him.
Pupil 9: Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool in 1942. He studied at a secondary school only. Paul began to play the guitar and sing at 18. He can play 4 musical instruments now. McCartney wrote a lot of songs with John Lennon and they have been popular all over the world as a group “ Beatles “.
(The record of “ Yesterday “ resounds.)
Pupil 10: You see that all of these differ from each other, but nevertheless they are interesting and beautiful. And we believe that you enjoyed our party so you do your English better. See you soon! We think it is not out last meeting.
