to bring – brought – brought (приносить)

  1. He always brings me good films to watch.

  6. I’m thirsty. Bring me some water from the kitchen.

to give – gave – given (давать)

  1. Can you give me your pencil? –Here you are.
  2. Can you give me his telephone number? – Sure. Put it down.
  3. He brought me two awesome comedies to watch. And I gave him a scary movie.
  4. What did you give him? – I gave him 2 English books to read. He asked me and I couldn’t say “no”.
  5. The dog was hungry; I gave him some meat to eat.
  6. The boy was thirsty. I gave him some water to drink.
  7. She is thirsty. Give her something to drink.

to want – wanted – wanted (хотеть)

  1. I want to sleep.
  2. She is hungry. She wants to eat.
  3. I’m thirsty. I want to drink.

  7. Do you want me to go?
  8. I don’t want to talk with him / her.

try – tried – tried (пытаться)

  1. Don’t disturb me. I’m trying to concentrate.

  3. I’m trying to close the window.
  4. I was trying to help him.
  5. I don’t think I can do it, but I’ll try.
  6. He didn’t try to do it, did he?
  7. Is there any use trying?

to meet – met – met (встречать)

  1. I meet him in the street every morning on my way to work / to school / to the university.
  2. Will you meet me at the station tomorrow?
  3. I’m going to meet him at the airport.
  4. Is anyone going to meet you?
  5. I met him at the concert yesterday.
  6. Can we meet in an hour? – No problem.

to talk – talked – talked (говорить, разговаривать, вести беседу)

to buy – bought – bought (покупать)

  1. We buy bread every day.

to find – found – found (находить)

  1. Whose key is this? – I don’t know; I found it in the street.
  2. I like this internet site very much, I always find something interesting in it.
  3. I can’t find my socks? Have you seen them?
  4. I can’t find my book? Have you seen it? – It was on the table. Look carefully.
  5. Mum, I can’t find my pants? Have you seen them?
  6. Why are you so happy? – I found 20 dollars in the street.
  7. I found someone’s book in the classroom. Do you know whose book this is?
  8. I find this book very interesting / exciting / boring / dull.
  9. How do you like / find this movie? – It’s awesome.
  10. I was looking for this book for an hour. Where did you find it? – It was under the bed.

to leave – left – left (оставлять, покидать, уходить)

  1. Usually I leave home at 8 in the morning.
  2. Where is your dictionary? – I left it at home.
  3. Where is your copy book? – I must have left it at home.
  4. Don’t leave things here. They may be stolen.
  5. Where is the director? – He has just left.
  6. Someone left an umbrella in the reception.
  7. Where are your tickets? – I must have left them in my trunk / suitcase.

to lose – lost – lost (терять)

  1. Don’t lose these documents. They are very important.
  2. Don’t lose your tickets.
  3. I’ve lost my purse.
  4. Yesterday I lost my sun glasses.
  5. – Where is your umbrella?

– I don’t know. Haven’t you seen it?

– Nope. Perhaps you lost it on your way home or left at work.

– I hope I didn’t lose it.

  1. My granny is always losing keys.
  2. Why are you crying? – I’ve lost 20 hryvnas.
  3. I’m afraid I’ve lost my purse.

to miss – missed – missed (скучать, пропускать)

  1. I miss you!
  2. Do you miss him? – Of course. I haven’t seen him for a month.
  3. I missed the train.
  4. I was late to the station and missed my bus.
  5. Hurry up if you don’t want to miss your train.
  6. He missed 10 English classes and now he doesn’t know a lot of words.

to forget – forgot – forgotten (забывать)

  1. I wanted to phone him, but I forgot his phone number.
  2. Do you know this man? – Yeah, I met him once or twice, but I forgot his name.
  3. My granny always forgets the date of my birthday.
  4. I’m sorry I forgot to bring you the book.
  5. I’m sorry, I’ve absolutely forgotten about our meeting.
  6. I’ve absolutely forgotten about his birthday.
  7. She must have forgotten about the party.
  8. None is going to meet me at the airport. I’ve forgotten to tell them about my arrival.

to ask – asked – asked (спрашивать, просить)

  1. May I ask you a question?
  2. Students always ask a lot of questions to their teachers.
  3. I asked you to buy bread. Did you buy any?
  4. Bill asked to bring him the book.
  5. Mum asked me to do the cleaning,
  6. My daughter always asks me to read her fairy tails before she goes to bed.
  7. I asked him to help me.
  8. The man asked me if I knew the way to the underground.

to understand – understood – understood (понимать)

1. Do you understand me?

2. Do you understand what I mean?

3. Do you understand what he says?

4. I don’t understand you.

5. I’m trying to understand him.

6. I don’t understand what you are talking about.

7. I don’t understand how you could lose the suitcase.

8. I don’t understand how you could leave the tickets at home.

9. The teacher explained this rule twice, but I didn’t understand him.

to come – came – come (приходить)

1. When do you usually come home from school / work?

2. When does your mother come home from work?

3. Why didn’t you come to the party yesterday? – I’ve absolutely forgotten about it.

4. She always comes late to work.

5. Are you going to come to the party tomorrow? – I don’t know, perhaps.

to see – saw – seen (видеть, смотреть)

1. Have you seen him before? – Yeah, I met him once or twice.

2. Have you seen his new car? – Nope, did he buy one?

3. Have you seen this film? – Yeah, it’s awesome.

4. I don’t see what is written there.

5. Can you see what is written there?

6. I haven’t seen you for ages! What’s up?
