Sochi Art Museum was built in Sochi in 1936. "The architect organizes not only space but human mentality as well, he is a true organizer of life", - wrote architect Ivan Vladislavovich Zholtovsky.

The lofty colonnade of the portico, the vigorously accentuated elements of classical architecture lend this relatively small structure a majestic and festive look. The over - all architectural design of the building has an elating effect on the visitor, prepares him for a rendezvous with Art.

The stories behind some of the works are associated with episodes of the city's history. The picture "Italy" (1931) by Isaac Izrailevich Brodsky (1883-1939) is connected with the history of the Sochi health resort. Brodsky was commissioned to paint a picture for interior of one of the sanatoriums. The artist, who was well known for his paintings on themes associated with Revolution and Lenin, decided to re-create for the sanatorium a picture he had done in Italy in the 1910s after finishing the Academy of Arts.

The graphic arts of the forties and the early fifties drew largely on the traditions of Russian classics of the late 19th century, on the traditions of the Peredvizhniki (the Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions).

In re-creating the history of the Revolution, painters of that period presented the people as the real makers of history. This is the underlying idea of the painting "The Aidyn March" (1947) by Viktor Ivanovich Ufimtsev (1899- 1964), a founder of historical revolutionary painting in Uzbekistan. His pictures are noted for their clear-cut composition and life-like realism.

Lidia Isaakovna Brodskaya (b. 1910) has also dedicated herself to landscape painting. Her "Sunset on the Dnieper" (1972) shows the majestic river, flowing serenely between its picturesque banks.

Many, modern painters concentrate on man's inner world, his spiritual and intellectual quests. Characteristically, the masters whose crystallized over last 35-40 years are now seeking new intonations for their highly professional art.

The Sochi Exhibition Hall collection of works of Soviet art is growing. Besides our expositions of drawings, sculpture and decorative applied art are now being formed.

Eagles Rocks

The route starts from "Old Matsesta". We pass to the left bank of the river Matsesta and turn left. In 50 meters we approach a bifurcation of roads. For us - to the right, to the south-east, following the road going along the left slope of Eagles rocks. Passing two branches of the road and turning right, we get to a large field (about 1 km from the beginning of the route).
At a distance of 1,3 km from the beginning of the route asphalt road ends. Further - only forest roads and tracks. At turn of the road there are two visible tracks. We choose left, more noticeable. In a quarter of a kilometer we cross the road again. On the right - index in a form of two wooden leaves, on one of which - the inscription "Eagles rocks ", on the other - "City" are cut out. The track runs up to a small hill, goes down to a saddle and rises smoothly to the highest point at Eagles rocks (379 m), meeting here with a road (2,4 km from the beginning of the route). Let's approach to a concrete barrier protecting the edge. Frightening bulwarks of Eagles rocks break downwards, where in a dizzy depth a narrow zigzag of the river Agura twists at the bottom of the gorges. You can observe waterfalls, especially the lowest one with a lake at the foot and a bridge across the Agura. The horseshoe of Eagles rocks - smooth arch covering the gorge of the Agura from the west, consists of two circles - upper and lower. The precipice of the upper circle reaches the maximal size, about 85 m, in the place where the track leads us to a concrete barrier on the edge. The height of observation platform above the bottom of the gorge is about 250 m. It is forbidden to approach to unprotected edges of the precipice and also to throw stones downwards - usually people walk there.
From the observation platform in clear weather a perfect panorama of the Caucasian mountains opens. In the north-east we can see a pointed top of the mountain Chugush (3,238 м), more to the right - a flat extended mountain Achishkho (2,391 м). Further, above deep cut of the gorge Akhtsu - the trapeze mountain Pseashkho (3,256 м), a sharp cone of the mountain Sugar Head (3,189 м) and three peaks of Aibga (2,462 м) towers. Still more to the right we can see rocky Agepsta (3256 м), similar to Elbrus' twin-peack top Akh-Ag (2,732 м) and part of the mountain-mass Arabica. A woody cone of the mountain Akhun with a tower on the top completes panorama, which is possible to see passing some dozens of meters to the left along the edge of the precipice. Following the track that is paved here it is possible to get to the merge of the Agura with its left inflow the Agurchik.
