Whispering Valley

Somewhere between the time of Dinosaurs and Cowboys, a mysterious meteorite crashed to the Earth, the impact crater forming the valley that is the current home of Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. Many years (and layers of dirt) later, the town of Oblongata was built on top of the crash site. People started acting funny because of the mysterious mineral in the buried meteorite (Psitanium!) and were thought, in olden days, to be witches. Then, as the age of science and reason dawned, they were diagnosed as crazy and the town built an entire insane asylum to house them. What these people were, of course, was psychic. The Psitanium just amplified the dormant powers in the townspeople and caused an inordinate amount of psychics. ANYWAY, the town was just so filled with weirdos and psychics that everybody moved away and no one objected when the river was damned and the entire valley floor was flooded. So then, at the bottom of the man-made Lake Oblongata, was left a green, moss-covered ghost town. The whole area around the lake remained legendary for it’s bizarre paranormal phenomena, and that is why the Psychonauts settled here.
