3 Read this dictionary entry for email:

1 a system for sending messages electronically, especially from one computer to another using the Internet: You can contact me by email. • What’s your email address?

2 a message sent electronically: I got an email from Danielle yesterday.

Email addresses usually look like this: djones@hotmail.com

When we tell someone an email address we say: 'D Jones at hotmail dot com'.

4 Now it’s time to learn how to write emails

• write the email address of the person you are writing to To: djones@hotmail.com
• your email address From: pgreen@ovi.com
• a few words to say what the email is about Subject: party
• the email address of anyone you want to copy the message to Cc: andy@sedwick.co.uk
• attach other computer files which you are sending with the email Attached: H:\Reunion\addresses

Emails are usually shorter and more informal than letters and people sometimes use abbreviations and “smileys” in them. Smileys (also called emoticons) are images which look like faces when you see them from the side. They are made using keyboard symbols and are used to express emotions.
