You arrive at a party and realise that the only person you know is the host. Do you...
a) panic and hide in the bathroom?
b) go and introduce yourself to anybody who looks interesting?
c) end up talking to the most boring person there because nobody else wants to talk to them?
5. Your favourite record comes on, but nobody else is dancing. Do you...
a) wait until a few other people are dancing and then join them?
b) stay where you are. You prefer to dance to your favourite record in the privacy of your own home?
c) start dancing on your own?
Somebody suggests playing party games. Do you...
a) suddenly remember a previous engagement?
b) feel embarrassed, but join in anyway?
c) suggest your favourite game and organise it?
KEY:
1 a=1 b=2 c=3 2 a=2 b=3 c=1 3 a=1 b=3 c=2
4 a=3 b=1 c=1 5 a=2 b=1 c=3 6 a=3 b=2 c=1
What it means:
- if you scored between 6 and 10: you are definitely the life and soul of any party.
- if you scored between 11 and 14: you could afford to let your hair down occasionally (relax and enjoy yourself, especially after working hard.)
- if you scored between 15 and 18: you obviously like the quiet life – but you don’t have to take everything so seriously.

11. Think of a good party you've been to or one that was a disaster. You are going to tell your partner about it. Choose from the list the things you want to talk about. Think about what you will say and what language you will need. Tell your partner about the party.
Whose party was it? Did you know most of the people there? What was the occasion? What sort of food and drink did you have? Did you take a gift for the host? What was the music like? Who did you go with? Did you dance? Where was the party? Did you meet anybody nice there? Were there any decorations? What time did it finish? Were there a lot of people there? Did you stay to the end?
12. Work in groups. You are going to take part in a competition to organise the best party. Tell the rest of the class about your party. Try to convince them to come. Decide on the following:

• who to invite • entertainment (music, fireworks, etc) • place • food and drink
13. Listen to the song and see what the relationship between the party hostess, Johnny and Judy is? Listen to the song again and read the lyrics. In each line of the three verses there is an extra word. Find the word and cross it out.

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to,
Cry if I want to, cryif I want to.
You would cry too if it happened to you.
Verse 1
Nobody really knows where my Johnny has gone,
But Judy left at the same time.
Why has he still holding her hand,
When he's supposed to be all mine.
Chorus
Verse 2
Play all of my records, keep dancing all night,
But just leave me alone for a while,
'Til Johnny's back dancing with me,
I've got no more reason to smile.

Verse 3
Judy and Johnny just walked in thru' the door,
Like a queen walking with her king.
Oh, what a birthday party surprise
Judy's wearing his ear-ring.
