Interview Sen Deni
1. Hello guys. First, I'd like you to introduce yourself a little bit, please. (comment: When did you found the band? Do you have side-projects? What are your future aims for Sen Deni?)
Hi! We`re Sen Deni band, from Minsk, Belarus. We`ve started playing in 2008, recorded a few demos. After that we had some inside scrapes which led to up changes, so we finally formed by the end of 2009. By now we have 3 albums (no more (2010), Letters (2011), secret of the sea (2012)), which are available for free download on our bandcamp (sendeni.bandcamp.com). They were released by ourselves in small quantities just for our tours, so it is just impossible to get them now). Most of us also have some side-projects, like Me In Danger, Crown For The Rat King and some others without any records by now.
In the near future we plan to have another euro tour, and a new record maybe. Split, EP, full-length – we still don`t know, in most cases it resolves spontaneously.
What does “Sen Deni” mean? The only thing I found, is something about the French words “Saint Denis”? Does it have anything to do with it?
Yes, our band`s name is a russian transliteration of Paris suburb, famous for its basilica with the tomb of French kings. There are no any deep subtext in it).
3. You have just been touring Europe. What were your expectations or favourite moments/places? What do you think about the different HC-scenes? (comment: Maybe you could say something about Germany as well:-))
Impressions are absolutely incredible! It was our first European touring and this trip exceeded our expectations. Everything: from the planning stage, to the latest concerts and hours spent on the border. It was very nice to feel the great support of total strangers, who helped us with some contacts, organization of concerts, places to sleep and much more. We have met lot`s of great people, have found new friends all over the Europe. And everywhere we were filling ourselves like at home, which once again proves that the unique “punk spirit” of friendship and mutual assistance is totally international. We`ve shared the stage with such nice bands as Locktender, Coup d `Etat, Willy Fog, and lots of others. And of course Fluff fest. For the first time we were playing not on a small local gig but in front of a few thousand crowd and anyway it felt very cozy and comfortable. It was a great honor for us to play there, especially given that we were the first band from Belarus to do it.
As for the differences between the EU HC scene and ours – ideas and the whole mood is the same. I guess the main difference is the level of freedom. As a simple example - it is almost impossible to squat any house in Belarus). Of course it is also harder to make some international gigs here because of visas and the political pressure is much harder.
