SHOULD / SHOULDN'T

Модальне дієслово should виражаєь моральний обов'язок (з точки зору того, хто говорить), пораду, рекомендацію.

Сполучення should з інфінітивом (V) виражає дію стосовно теперішнього або майбутнього часу:

You should go to the movies more. (Вам слід більше ходити в кіно.)

You should read this book. (Вам слід прочитати цю книжку.)

Most people should do more exercise. (Більшість людей повинні робити більше вправ.)

You shouldn't eat too much salt. (Тобі не слід їсти занадто багато солі.)

Should I take the exam again, do you think? (Чи слід мені скласти іспит знову, як ти гадаєш?)

Дієслово should можна замінити синонімом It’s a good idea to do this:

You should sleep 8 hours every day. = It’s a good idea to sleep 8 hours every day. (Тобі слід спати вісім годин щодня.)

Дієслово shouldn’t можна замінити синонімом It isn’t a good idea to do this (= It is a bad idea to do this):

You shouldn’t eat sweets. = It isn’t a good idea to eat sweets. = It is a bad idea to eat sweets. (Тобі не слід їсти цукерки.)

Pay your attention:

+	I/ You/He/She/It/ We/You/They	should stop smoking. should drink a lot of water. should eat fresh fruit every day.
-	I/ You/He/She/It/ We/You/They	should not(shouldn't) miss breakfast. should not(shouldn't) drive so fast. should not(shouldn't) play computer games.
?	Should	I/you/he/she/we/you/they	exercise more? learn all these words by heart? drink milk every day?

What should I do? Where should we park the car? When should I go to bed?
MUST / MUSTN'T

Модальне дієслово must виражає обов'язок, необхідність:

You must stop when the traffic light is red. – Ви повинні зупинитися, коли світло – червоне.

То catch the train I must get up at six. - Щоб потрапити на поїзд, я мушу встати о 6 годині.

Must we come to school tomorrow? - Чи треба нам приходити в школу завтра?

У заперечних реченнях must виражає заборону:

You must not talk aloud in the reading-hall. - У читальному залі не дозволяється голосно розмовляти.

You mustn’t park here. – Паркування тут заборонено.

Модальне дієслово must вживається для вираження наказу і поради:

Tomorrow you must come to school at eight. - Завтра ви повинні прийти до школи о восьмій години.

You must behave yourself at school. – Ти повинен гарно вести себе в школі.

Дієслово must можна замінити синонімом It’s very important to do this:

You must stop smoking. = It’s very important to stop smoking. (Ти повинен кинути палити.)

Дієслово mustn’t можна замінити синонімом It’s very important not to do this:

You mustn’t eat too much fast food. = It’s very important not to eat too much fast food. (Ти не повинен їсти так багато фаст фуду.)

Pay your attention:

+	I/ You/He/She/It/ We/You/They	must wear school uniform. must follow these rules. must have a good night's sleep.
-	I/ You/He/She/It/ We/You/They	must not (mustn’t) use mobile phones here. must not (mustn’t) smoke in the corridors. must not (mustn’t) run in the corridors.
?	Must	I/you/he/she/we/you/they	exercise more? learn all these words by heart? attend all classes?

What must I do? Where must I go? What time must I come?
