Booking a holiday
Travel agent: Hello, how can I help you?
Customer: Yes, we’re looking for a holiday in January, somewhere hot- you know, near a beach and all that, but not too far away if possible.
Travel agent: Ok, well, what about going to Egypt? It’s warm throughout the year in this country and they’re very interesting.
Customer: Yes, in fact we have recently seen advertisement for Khurgada. It seemed very reasonable.
Travel agent: OK, I’ll check availability for you…No, I am sorry they’ve all gone. It was a special offer. There’s plenty more choice in Egypt. I wonder, have you thought of going to the Sharman- sheikh? It’s very reasonably priced and you’re guaranteed sun.
Customer: How much does a flight take?
Travel agent: It is three-hour flight.
Customer: OK, let’s stay in Sharman –Sheikh then.
Stage 3
Booking a room in a hotel.
Travel agent: The first thing is that if you want to stay in a hotel you’ll need to make a reservation pretty soon. Have you any definite dates?
Customer: Well, we’re arriving in Finland on 5th January and stay about three weeks there.
Travel agent: I see. What kind of accommodation would you like?

Travel agent: Well, There are three hotels. The Holiday inn is quite expensive-around $200 a night. The two others are about the same price-approximately $ 75 a night. The Europe is very popular, so you will need to make a reservation very soon. The Paradise is very pretty. The country village hotel is also available.
Customer: We would like to stay in the city in a pretty hotel. So, we choose hotel “Paradise”, because It is with restaurant and entertaining facilities. What about the facilities in the rooms?
Travel agent: Ok. The room is on the third floor overlooking the park. It is en suite with bath and shower. There is a colour television and telephone in it. There is coffee- and tea- making facilities. There is a mini-bar and trouser press, too.
Travel agent: Bed and breakfast or half-board?
Customer: I’m not sure.
Travel agent: If I were you, I’d choose B&B, then you can eat out in the restaurants at night. That way you will see a bit of the local life.
Customer: OK – bed and breakfast.
Travel agent: There’ is availability on 5th of January. Flight from Sheremetevo international airport at 10.30 arriving 13.30 local time. Return on the 25th of January, departing Sharman-Sheikh airport at 15.00 and arriving at Sheremetevo at 19.00.
Customer: That’s good –no night flights.
Travel agent: Do want to confirm it?
Customer: can we think about it?
Travel agent: Of course. I can put a 24-hour hold on your reservation, and you can let me know tomorrow.
Can I just take some details? What is your name?
Customer: Kate Borisova.
Travel agent: That’s K-A-T-E B-O-R-S-V-A
Customer: Right.
Travel agent: And phone number please?
Customer: 3400838.
Travel agent: OK. What I’ll do is hold this for 24 hours. If you could phone us tomorrow and tell us if you want to confirm the booking we’ll take some more details then. I’ll just give you the booking reference number. It’s 17583.
Customer: 17583. Great, thanks. I’ll call you tomorrow. Thanks for your help.
Travel agent: You’re welcome.
