Holding provisions regarding contribution to travel expenses

At the beginning and end of long term paid traineeships at the

European Economic and Social Committee

THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMITTEE

Having regard to the budget of the EESC, and in particular Chapter 14 thereof, which makes provisions for funds for traineeships in administrative units at the EESC;

Having regard to EESC Decision No 115/14 A of 27 May 2014, and in particular Article 2.2.9 thereof, which makes provisions for reimbursement of travel expenses at the beginning and end of traineeships;

Whereas the duties of trainees require their presence in Brussels,

HAS DECIDED:

1. GENERAL

A contribution to the travel expenses at the beginning and end of long-term paid traineeships at the EESC shall be made in accordance with the provisions set out below. False declarations in order to receive the financial contribution might lead to the termination of the traineeship.

2. TRAVEL EXPENSES

No contribution to travel expenses shall be paid where the distance between the place of residence as stated in the application form and Brussels is less than or equal to 50 km.

2.1 Entitlement

Trainees shall be entitled to a contribution to the travel expenses as long as they

a. complete at least three months of traineeship; and

b. complete a "contribution for travel expenses" form; and

c. provide the relevant travel documents.

2.2 Amount of the contribution (one way)

The following flat-rate amounts apply and are limited to a maximum contribution of 400 €.

2.3 Place of residence

The place of residence shall be considered to be the address trainees give for correspondence on their application form. Once the candidates have received notification that a traineeship has been granted, the place of residence may no longer be altered.

2.4 Distance

The distance between the place of residence and Brussels (one way) is calculated by the EESC by means of the tool used for this purpose in the institutions of the European Union.

2.5 Return journey

Trainees are entitled to receive a contribution for their return journey at the end of the traineeship. The abovementioned rules apply; however, a contribution may not be claimed for an amount higher than the one paid for the outward journey.

In case the traineeship contract is terminated after more than three but less than five months of traineeship, the trainee loses the entitlement to the contribution to return travel expenses.

3. Entry into force

This Decision shall apply to the 2014 autumn traineeship session as well as to all traineeships starting at that or a later date.
