The main machine parts which shape macaroni are the die and the die insert.

 

The die is a thick metal plate made of anti-corrosive metal with the holes in it. The standard diameter of the die is 298 mm. The diameter of the holes is 7 mm.

 

The hole has a form of a three-stepped cylinder. The diameter of the upper part of the hole is 11 mm. The diameter of its middle part is 8 mm. The lowest part of the die hole has the diameter, which is equal to the outside size of macaroni which are to make.

 

The die insert is usually of a T-form. It has the same size as the hole inside of the finished macaroni. Pressure forces the dough into the holes and through them finished macaroni come.
