Ex. 1. Learn the words, listen to an episode of Vera’s interview and then do the task:

ornithological society – орнитологическое общество

an anorak – теплая куртка, обычно с капюшоном

Covent Garden – Ковент Гарден - район Лондона, известен компактным расположением нескольких театров.

the Coliseum – название театра

English Opera Company – театральная труппа

a play-write - драматург

 

Task: Answer the questions in writing:

What is Vera doing at the moment?

How often the meetings are held?

What compositions are they learning?

What are the activities of the ornithological society?

What other Oxford society does Vera belong to?

Why does Vera have a particular interest in the theatre?

What does she do in the line of her theatrical interest?

Do you think Vera is a very rich person?

 

Ex. 2. Listen to the episode of an interview and insert the missing words.

Ex.1. Listen to the dialogue at a travel agency about a package tour. Prepare it for acting.

a cruise - круиз

a package tour – тур, турпоездка с заранее организованной программой

a charter flight – чартерный рейс (спецрейс для доставки туристов)

a scheduled flight – обычный рейс авиокампании по расписанию

sailing – ходить под парусом

a pension – пансион (жилье и питание)

a reservation – предварительный заказ

 

- Have you thought of taking a cruise?

- Yes, I have, but I’m afraid they are too expensive.

- We have some very good package tours to Spain at reasonable prices.

- I’m not very keen on charter flights.

- Most of our package tours use regular scheduled flights.

- Fine. I should like to do some sailing on my holiday.

- Then I can recommend the Beverly Playa on Majorca. There is a sailing school there. Would you like full pension or half pension?

- I think half pension is better.

- May I ask you to pay a deposit on your reservation then?

 

Ex. 2. Listen to one more dialogue at a travel agency and prepare it for acting.

 

- Good afternoon, sir. Can I help you?

- Yes, I should like your advice, please. I planned to spend my holidays with friends. However it’s no longer possible. So I’m now looking for somewhere else to go.

- I see, sir. What kind of holiday did you have in mind? Seaside holiday or holiday in the mountains? A relaxing holiday or perhaps an adventure holiday?

- An adventure holiday sounds interesting.

- We have a fascinating overland trip through Europe and Turkey. Or you can take our exciting safari trip in East Africa.

- No, it’s not what I really have in mind.

 

Ex. 3. Listen to the dialogue between a clerk and a passenger at the check in counter of an airport. Prepare it for model reading and acting.

 

- Good afternoon, madam. Can I have your ticket, please? Thank you. Would you like smoking or non-smoking?

- Non-smoking. I would like a window seat too.

- Let me see now. No, I’m sorry, we’ve got no seats left in the non-smoking area. We’ve got some left in the smoking area.

- No, no, no. I want it non-smoking, please.

- Oh, I see. Yes, I’ve got one. It’s an aisle seat. Is that all right?

- An aisle seat? What’s an aisle seat? Sorry.

- It’s only end of the row seat, it’s where the people walk up and down. You know?

- Oh, yes, yes, that’s okay.

- Oh, right. okay then, I give you Seat P3. Would you put your luggage on the scales, please? I’m awfully sorry, madam, you are two kilos over.

- Two kilos? But I thought you allowed 22 kilos, I weighed my luggage before I left home. I had 22.

PART 1. Present Simple и Present Continuous

 

При выполнении следующих заданий следует помнить, что ряд глаголов, как правило, не употребляются в длительном времени. Это глаголы, характеризующие умственную деятельность: know, realise, suppose, understand, believe, remember, forget, think, assume, consider, expect, agree, mean, doubt и др.;

глаголы эмоций: like, dislike, love, hate, envy, prefer, wish, want, care и др.;

глаголы обладания: have, own, belong, contain и др.;

глаголы чувств: see, hear, smell, taste и др.

Однако многозначность этих глаголов не делает это правило абсолютным.

 

Ex. 1. Определите, в правильном ли грамматическом времени употреблен глагол.

 

  1. I get up at seven in the morning.
  2. I'm liking black coffee.
  3. He's speaking three languages.
  4. I think Mexico's a beautiful country.
