Introduction
This paper describes the essence of advertising, its role in society. In our lives we notice every step of advertising in any dimension: whether it is the television, or the newspaper. The question that runs through my head is what influences the consumers’ purchasing behavior? The answer is “advertising”. How many of us get influenced by advertisements? Advertising is a message printed in a newspaper or magazine, broadcast radio or television sent to individuals to inform and persuade them to buy a particular product or service. Today advertising is sent also through SMS, Internet, movies, shopping carts, bus panels, shelters, walls, and billboards. Advertising plays an important role in building the brand, creating the image and communicating it to the consumers. Also, it tends to strengthen our purchasing confidence and builds up our prestige. Furthermore, we believe that what we buy communicates a message about our lifestyle, attitude and ideology. At the end of the day, the advertiser’s aim is to sell and make profit.
Advertising is a pervasive, powerful force that shapes attitude and behavior in today's world. Advertising has a profound impact on how people understand life, the world and themselves, especially in regard to values and ways of choosing and behaving.
The aim of this research is to determine the role of the advertising in our life.
The objectives of this paper are:
- To be aware of the types and functions of advertising, the history of advertising, advertising in mass media, advertising agency.
-To learn the mechanism of the development of the advertising.
The main method of choosing information for this work is descriptive.
The novelty and topicality of this paper are: to understand the function of advertising in our life, to study types and functions of advertising, advertising agency and domestic advertising. The practical application of the paper is to use the results of the work in the future studies and career.
The work consists of the first part called “The History of Advertising”, the second part “Types and Functions of Advertising”, the third part “Advertising in mass media”, conclusion and references.
The History of Advertising
1.1.Origin of word “advertising”
It is impossible to imagine our television, newspapers, radio, Internet and even streets without advertisements. Nowadays advertising plays an important role in modern life and in the life of every person. We can’t imagine our life without advertising because every day we hear or see advertising, we try to find information we need in hundreds of advertisements. Even when we go for a walk or just shopping we see a lot of different advertisements in the streets. I think that “Advertising” is a very interesting topic, because in the XXI century every minute of our life is connected with advertising. It is hard to believe but the origins of advertising antedate the Christian era by many centuries. One of the first known methods of advertising was outdoor display, usually an eye-catching sign painted on the wall of a building. Advertising has turned into a worldwide industry.
The word “advertising” comes from the French word "reclame". Advertising if to speak a simple language, serves to notify in various ways the new goods or services and their consumer properties, and is directed to the potential consumer, paid by the sponsor and serves for promotion of its production and ideas. Advertising is a part of communication activity of a firm, alongside with publicity and stimulation of selling. There are a lot of definitions of the word “advertising”. For example, advertising is a collective term for public announcements designed to promote the sale of specific commodities or services.
