ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
REPORTS TO Curriculum Area Manager: Modern Foreign Languages
PURPOSE OF POSITION
To plan, design, deliver, assess, evaluate and manage classroom activities within the designated subject area(s), in order to maintain the highest levels of quality assurance in the teaching and learning of learners.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To offer professional tuition in the above language.
2. To provide comprehensive reports on the learning taking place on the courses taught through the College's quality control system.
3. To keep abreast of improvements in the methodologies of language teaching.
4. To participate in Departmental curriculum development in the area of language teaching.
5. To where appropriate assist in the preparation of learners for entry into relevant examinations.
6. To competently keep the administrative details associated with teaching courses in these languages such as registers, schemes of work, lesson plans, and course descriptions.
7. To be aware of College policies on equality and seek to implement them through good classroom practice.
8. To attend Departmental and College meetings which are held from time to time (these are paid at the meeting/ training rates).
9. Implement College policies within this area of work particularly equality and health and safety.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Fluency in the Russian language (spoken and written) with particular emphasis on grammar.
2. Educated to degree level or equivalent in Russian.
3. Relevant teaching qualification or a willingness to obtain one within the first two years at the College and/or a minimum of 2 years’ experience of teaching the language to adults.
4. Interest and ability in developing new approaches to teaching the Russian language.
5. Sound interpersonal skills in working and sharing ideas with fellow linguists.
6. Experience of planning, delivering, assessing and evaluating teaching and learning.
7. An understanding of and commitment to the implementation of the College’s Equality and Race Equality Policies.
MAIN CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
1.You will be employed by Morley College Limited.
2. The College pay rates for hourly-paid lecturers normally follow AoC National Negotiating Committee agreements. Salary is between grades A and H, currently £22.74 to £27.48 per hour (including preparation time and holiday pay). Appointment for this post will normally be made on the starting salary of £22.74 per hour (including preparation time holiday pay). For those lecturers with qualified teacher status or with a minimum 5 years experience teaching adults the starting salary will be £23.36 per hour (including preparation time and holiday pay).
3. The post is superannuable under the Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme administered by the Teachers’ Pensions Agency. Other arrangements made under relevant legislation will usually be accepted.
4. Normal working hours are sessions of between 1.5 or 2 per class as determined by the Curriculum Area Manager during term-time only. Work in the evenings and occasionally at weekends may be required.
5. There will be a 10-month probation period.
6. The College does not recognise service with any previous employer for calculating continuous service for the purposes of the Employment Rights Act 1996. Any previous continuous local government service may be counted as part of continuous employment with the Company for redundancy pay purposes. The date of commencement of qualifying service for the purposes of that Act and for all other contractual purposes will be the date on which the Hourly-Paid Lecturer first joins the College’s service.
7. The College does not permit smoking in any of its buildings.
8. The College welcomes applications from suitable candidates regardless of their race, gender, disability, religion or sexual orientation. Applicants with restricted mobility are welcomed; however, although recent improvements have made more of the College accessible by lift, in some areas mobility would be limited for a person who cannot manage stairs or steps. In such a case, the College would be happy to discuss further reasonable adjustments with applicants. 9. The appointment will be subject to receipt of satisfactory professional references, proof of qualification, eligibility to work in the UK and a CRB check.
10. STARTING-DATE: As agreed with the Curriculum Area Manager.
