“On the Greek island of Cephalonia, hundreds of turtle nests are made on nesting beaches every summer. Unfortunately, female and baby turtles are disturbed by tourists. Only one in a thousand baby turtles survives. In 1988, a hundred turtle eggs were taken from their nest on Potomakia beach, Cephalonia, to England. The eggs had been laid too late in summer to develop. They were incubated at Southampton University and four baby turtles hatched. Four years later, when they weighed 25 kilos, the young turtles were flown back home.

That was in May 1992. But the story doesn’t end there. Blue tags have been attached to their back flippers, so they will be recognized easily.”
