The soul's activity becomes adulterated in contact with matter and as such the diseased activities are expressed in the form of lust, desire, hankerings, inactivity, foolishness and sleep. The effect of devotional service becomes manifest by complete elimination of these effects of passion and ignorance. The devotee is fixed at once in the mode of goodness and he makes further progress to rise up to the position of Vasudeva or the state of unmixed Satwa or Suddha-satwa state. In this Suddha-Satwa state only one can see, eye to eye, Krishna always on account of pure affection for the Lord.

SB 1.2.19, Purport

4. Kunté Devi:

Lord Kåñëa's father, Vasudeva, had sixteen wives, and one of them, named Pauravé or Rohiëé, the mother of Baladeva, was the sister of Vidura. Vasudeva, therefore, was the husband of Vidura's sister, and thus they were brothers-in-law. Vasudeva's sister Kunté was the wife of Päëòu, Vidura's elder brother, and in that sense also, Vasudeva was brother-in-law to Vidura. Kunté was younger than Vasudeva, and it was the duty of the elder brother to treat younger sisters as daughters. Whenever anything was needed by Kunté, it was munificently delivered by Vasudeva, due to his great love for his younger sister. Vasudeva never dissatisfied his wives, and at the same time he supplied the objects desired by his sister. He had special attention for Kunté because she became a widow at an early age. While inquiring about Vasudeva's welfare, Vidura remembered all about him and the family relationship.

SB 3.1.27, Purport

Vidüratha, the son of Citraratha, had a son named Çüra, who had ten other sons, of whom Vasudeva was the chief. Çüra gave one of his five daughters, Påthä, to his friend Kunti, and therefore she was also named Kunté. In her maiden state she gave birth to a child named Karëa, and later she married Mahäräja Päëòu.

SB 9.24, Summary

"My dear Kaunteya, Arjuna..." Arjuna's another name is Kaunteya because he is the son of Kunté. His mother's name is Kunté. Therefore he is addressed as Kaunteya. And Kunté has got relationship with Kåñëa. Kunté is the sister of Kåñëa's father, Vasudeva. Therefore out of affection for his aunt, He is addressing Arjuna as the son of his aunt Kunté, Kaunteya.

BG 13.1-3, lect., Durban, October 13, 1975

According to Vedic civilization, if a girl gives birth to a child before she is married, no one will marry her. Therefore although the sun-god, after appearing before Påthä, wanted to give her a child, Påthä hesitated because she was still unmarried. To keep her virginity undisturbed, the sun-god arranged to give her a child that came from her ear, and therefore the child was known as Karëa. The custom is that a girl should be married akñata-yoni, that is, with her virginity undisturbed. A girl should never bear a child before her marriage.

SB 9.24.34, Purport

Arjuna's name is Pärtha. His mother's name is Påthä, Kunté's. From Påthä, his name is Pärtha. From his father's name, Päëòu, his name is Päëòava. So in this way big personalities or anyone, they should tally, the name should tally with the activities. This is nomenclature.

BG 1.15, lect., London, July 15, 1973

Arjuna's mother was known as Påthä. Påthä. Her father's name was Mahäräja Påthu. Therefore Arjuna is known as Pärtha. Sometimes Arjuna is addressed as Pärtha. It comes from the meaning, root meaning of Arjuna's mother's father, grandfather.

BG 7.1, lect, Los Angeles, March, 12, 1970

So here Kuntédevé says, Süta Gosvämé says, that påthayä itthaà kala-padaiù. Påthayä, Kunté's another name is Påthä. His, her father's name is Mahäräja Påthu; therefore she is called Påthä, daughter of Påthu. So when Kunté offered prayers to Kåñëa in very chosen nice words, all the words...
