Cardinal and Ordinal

A Cardinal Number is a number that says how many of something there are, such as one, two, three, four, five (один, два, три, чотири, п’ять).

A Cardinal Number answers the question "How Many?" (Скільки?)

An Ordinal Number is a number that tells the position of something in a list. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th... (перший, другий, третій, четвертий, п’ятий).

Health service in Ukraine

The Constitution of Ukraine adopted on June 28, 1996 guarantees the rights of Ukrainian citizens to life, health protection, medical care and medical insurance, safe and healthy environment.

The present health service in Ukraine both preventive and curative was inherited from the former state. It was available to the whole population. Now we can witness some changes in the system of public health service. First of all, it is establishment and support of strong post graduate programs for training in family medicine, introducing insurance medicine, creation the wide network of private consulting rooms, dental and eye surgery, beauty parlors, etc. They are equipped with modern apparatus and devices, but their services cost a pretty penny for the majority of Ukrainian population. Many people still go to the state hospitals and polyclinics for their medical needs.

The basic medical units in our country are rural, district, regional or municipal polyclinics. They employ many doctors and nurses. Polyclinics have their own laboratories, X-ray, physiotherapeutic, surgical and other departments. The work of a district doctor is very intensive. The doctor works for 6 hours a day — 3 hours in consultation at the polyclinic and 3 hours visiting patients in their homes. District doctors are especially busy during seasonal epidemies such as flu.

In case of emergency you may dial 03 for the ambulance to come. The emergency ambulance service operates day and night and is free of charge, except private emergency service.

Another medical unit in our country is the hospital. Most hospitals, especially regional ones, have several basic departments: therapeutic, surgical, cardiological, gynecological, etc. There are many specialized hospitals and centres for the treatment of particular diseases: infectious, psychiatric, oncological, ophthalmological and others.

The practice of medicine is not static, but constantly changing. Ukrainian society needs citizens who are healthy, educated, motivated, and able to work for their country. This can only be provided with a good health care.
