Climate in Ukraine

For a start I’d like to say that the climate of Ukraine as well as of any other country much depends on its geographical position. Ukraine is situated in the south-eastern part of Central Europe. It is washed by two seas: the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. There are two mountains in Ukraine: the Carpathians in the west and the Crimea Mountains in the south of the country. They protect the country from bitter winds. Besides Ukraine is a big country. So, it has different types of climate in various parts of it.

In the south of Ukraine the climate is subtropical. It means that summer is very hot, long and dry; winter is mild and short.

In the north of Ukraine the climate is moderately continental with warm summer and cold winter. The rivers and lakes freeze in winter. In the east of Ukraine there are more sunny days and less rains than in the west of the country. The average temperature for spring is +8; for summer +22; for autumn +6; for winter -4.But there are days in winter with temperature -20, -30 and in summer the temperature may be + 30, +35.

On the whole the climate in Ukraine is favourable for the life of people, it is good for growing corn, fruit and vegetables. It is suitable for a nice rest in all seasons.

Though it is necessary to mention that the climate in our country as well as all over the world is changing and unfortunately not for better. It is getting warmer. As a result we have less snow in winter and less rains in summer, more dry winds, storms, floods and different natural disasters which bring great damage to the nature and they are very dangerous for people.

It’s interesting to know that only 25 % of the territory of the Earth is favourable for the life of people. Fortunately Ukraine belongs to such places and we must appreciate this.
