Education in Ukraine

General Education

Nowadays education in Ukraine is of special importance.

The new Constitution guarantees everyone the right to education. The state ensures accessible and free primary, secondary, and professional education. Citizens have the right to get free higher education at state establishments on a competitive basis. Institutions of higher learning also admit thousands of foreign students and postgraduates. Ukraine has concluded intergovernmental agreements on education with over 30 countries, and it cooperates with a multitude of international educational organizations, programs, and foundations.

Medical Education.

Any citizen of our country who has a complete secondary education may apply to higher educational establishment. If you want to become a doctor you can enter medical institute, university or academy. Those who have obtained the highest marks in the examinations are admitted.

Academic year begins on September 1 and is divided into 2 terms of four months each. At the end of each term the students have to pass a number of examinations and credit tests. The course of study in medical institutions lasts 6 years except stomatological, pharmaceutical and psychological ones, and covers the basic preclinical and clinical subjects.

The Department of Medical Psychology is a new one. It gives the possibility for school graduates to obtain one of the most popular specialties in modern medicine. The course of studies for psychology students lasts 4 years. Psychologists are prominent in many areas of contemporary life. A young doctor can start his own business and have his private practice. He only needs a license and a working experience.
