Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to my presentation! My name is Wai Man.

The topic of my presentation today is "The Employment Prospects of the Fresh Graduates from the HKPU. If you are worried about getting a good job after graduation, please raise your hands.

The reason that this topic is useful for you is as follows. I will give you advice about how to get a well-paid job.

We are going to talk about three things.

These are, firstly the present salary for graduates from this University.

Secondly, the skills the employers want from the fresh graduates.

Finally, we are going to talk about ways of getting experience that give an advantage in interviews. Due to the limited time I have today, just 7 minutes, I’d appreciate it if you would keep your questions until the end. Thank you. (Please feel free to ask me questions at any time. This presentation will last for about 15 minutes.)

To begin with, I'd like to touch upon the first point – the present salary situation for fresh graduates from the University. Graduates from the University generally earn between $9,000 and $12,000 per month. That's a big range, as $12,000 is 33 % more than $9,000. Although this difference partly depends on which degree you take and which industry you enter, these are ways to improve your chances of getting a better job. That’s the end of the first point.

Now we will move on to the second point, which is about the skills the employers want from the fresh graduates. Having the skills the employers want helps you get a better job. Generally you need good communication skills in Chinese and English, good examination results and creativity. Working experience, even if it is in unrelated part-time or summer job is important. Technical skills are less important, as employers will often provide training in the company's working methods, and moreover, as technology advances are so quick, today's technical skills may shortly be out-of-date. That’s all for the second point.

The next point deals with ways of getting experience that give an advantage in interviews. Working in summer or part-time jobs gives you valuable experience and skills. These include communication skills, inter-personal skills, time-management skills and often experience at dealing with customers. Emphasizing these things in job interviews will give you an advantage over other candidates. So much for this point. Further on …

In conclusion, in this presentation my objective was to inform you about the job situation.

I have covered three main points. Firstly, the present salary for graduates from the University.

Secondly, the skills the employers want from the fresh graduates. Finally, we looked at ways of getting experience that give an advantage in interviews.I hope you have found this presentation useful. Thank you. Questions, please. Yes? If there are no more questions, that is the end of my presentation.
