Introduction
The aim of this report is to assess solarium usage among various demographic groups. This research has been carried out according to gender, age, personal preferences, frequency of usage, cost, time and skin tone. The survey took place in Bournemouth town centre. The amount of sunny days in the UK is limited and it was curious to find out how popular tanning is. Before the survey began I personally expected people to go to solariums once or twice every 6 months.
In my home country of Kazakhstan, going to solariums is a taboo subject. We use solariums but do not discuss it. This reluctance to discuss this could be due to personal pride regarding beauty regimes – by both men and women. It was found out that people aged over 26 visit solariums on any day of the week and people who are under 25 go during the weekend because they tend to be busier. The outcome was the complete opposite, visitors over the age of 26 only attended at weekends and 19-25 years old attended solariums on any day of the week. Furthermore, it was expected that younger people would not have enough money to use solariums.
