Bobbi Phelps Wolverton grew up in Darien, Connecticut, forty miles from New York City. Following graduation from Pine Manor College and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, she was employed as a legal secretary in San Francisco. In 1965 she joined World Airways as an international flight attendant.
In 1967 Bobbi traveled solo around the world and returned to complete her education at the University of California, Berkeley. She then rejoined the charter industry, working for Saturn Airways until 1973.
Bobbi became a professional photographer and copywriter after completing her airline career. From knowledge gained as an employee at Sierra Designs, she started the Angler’s Calendar and Catalog Company in 1975. The calendars eventually sold to thirty foreign countries, and in 1993 her business won Exporter of the Year for the State of Idaho (small company category).
Bobbi was a twenty-year member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, an Arnold Gingrich recipient with the International Federation of Fly Fishers, and a nine-year Idaho board member for The Nature Conservancy. Her volunteer activities also included fundraising for numerous charities, serving as a school board member, and chairing the Trout Festival in Buhl, Idaho.
Behind the Smile is Bobbi’s first book. Her second book will describe her eighteen-month backpacking trip around the world, and her third book will portray Bobbi’s life as a city girl living on a four-thousand-acre ranch in the middle of nowhere, many miles from Twin Falls, Idaho.
