(brief description)

PREHISTORY

Sathya Sai Baba Vedic Center was founded in Kharkov, Ukraine as a group of nine young people devoted to Sathya Sai. Center was founded in Spring 2005.

Group members: students, young families with small children, the average age of the group was up to 29 years.

Spring 2006 the group, consisting of 15 persons, was accepted to the Organization, evidence U19.

For three years The Youth Group actively participated in the work of the Ukrainian and Russian conferences. The Youth Group also participated in the work of the International Medical Camp “Bogoduhov 2008”. The group took active part in the organization and work of Sathya Sai Baba Summer Camps.

Activists of the group have visited Prashanthi Nilayam three times. Also they have organized meetings two times a week, performed bhajans, conducted satsangs and seva (they have cleaned and removed waste from forest, provided charity assistance to orphanage).

By their own efforts group members arranged Sathya Sai Baba’s library and focused their work on three main directions specified by the Organization’s Charter: spiritual, educational and serving.

For some time group participated in the Sathya Sai Baba’s Organization. During that period, there were no complaints or critique from supervisors or ordinary members of the Organization. The number of group members has grown up to 20 young people, which regularly attended meetings. This fact has made the group the largest youth group in Ukraine at that time.

THE CONFLICT

In 2009 with the change of Sathya Sai Organization leadership in Ukraine The Youth Group (all 20 people at once) was unfairly excluded from the Sathya Sai Organization within 3 months period (during January-February-March of 2009).

New leadership (Ruslan Tarasov, who acted on behalf of Valery Voschinin) had several claims and reasons for excluding:

1. Performance of Orthodox prayers, Slavic folk songs along with bhajans was considered as a violation of the Organization’s Charter.

2. The Ritual of the Aarti was also considered as a violation of the Organization’s Charter.

3. The popularization of national culture within the Organization was considered as a violation of Organization’s Charter.

The leadership of Sathya Sai Baba Organization in Ukraine has put forward several basic requirements for the Youth Center:

1. In a rigid form the new leadership of Sathya Sai Baba Organization in Ukraine demanded that group OBLIGATORY and urgently started education, based on ESSE system, despite the fact that youth center includes students, engaged in main education and also have an obligations to their parents.

2. Prohibition of singing Vedic hymns: Namakam Rudra, Rudra Chamakam.

3. Prohibition of chanting the 108 and 1008 names of Sathya Sai Baba.

4. Prohibition of all forms of meditation except Jyoti Meditation (including different forms and aspects of Sathya Sai Baba, such as Sathya Sai Baba’s Love, immersion into his consciousness, etc.).

5. Also it was prohibited to place on the altar any shapes and images of God but the form of Sathya Sai Baba.

Sathya Sai Baba Youth Center in Kharkov refused to comply with the requirements, because they contradict the honor, conscience, spirit and the Charter of the Sathya Sai Baba Organization and also they contradict the teachings of Sathya Sai Eternal Dharma.

After that The Youth Center of Kharkov WAS EXCLUDED from the Organization.

AFTER EXCLUSION

Despite the exclusion from the Organization group continued its independent activity of Sathya Sai Baba. With full membership group has visited Prashanthi Nilayam in February 2011, just two months before Mahasamadhi Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Today, the WHOLE activity of the Vedic Sathya Sai Centre is exceptionally charitable, without attracting external fees and donations. It became possible only because of internal resources and personal work of members of the center.
