TOPICI am a first-year student of the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy. There are nine faculties in the Academy, where they study agronomy, crop growing, animal husbandry and veterinary science, mechanical and civil engineering, land use planning, economics, accounting, and business and law. The Academy was founded in 1840. It is one of the oldest agricultural universities in Europe and in the former USSR. About 15,000 students study here at full-time and correspondence departments. The Academy includes sixteen study buildings, thirteen hostels, an experimental farm, a pedigree cattle farm, a botanical garden and a dendrology park. Students learn to drive tractors at the test range. The Academy is very green, with lots of trees, bushes and flowers. There are parks, groves and natural lakes within a short walking distance from every building of the campus. The Academy teaching combines lectures, practical classes and seminars. Spacious lecture-hall and a library are at students’ disposal. Sports facilities include an athletic field, a swimming pool and a horse-riding school. In 2012, the Academy amphitheatre saw the opening of the annual harvest festival ‘Dazhynki’.

Afghanistan is a poor country. Severe drought happened there in 1998–2001. One third of Afghanistan’s GDP comes from growing poppy and illicit drugs including opium, morphine, heroin, and hashish. Afghanistan is known for producing some of the finest fruits, especially pomegranates, apricots, grapes, melons and oranges.

Many of Afghanistan’s historic monuments have been damaged in recent wars. The two famous Buddhas of Bamiyan were destroyed by the Taliban, who regarded them as idolatrous.
