1 - Hello, David. How are you? You don't look very well.

- Hi, Julia. I feel awful.

- What's the matter?

-I've got a bad headache. I keep getting headaches. I haven't been sleeping well, either.

- I'm sure you've been working too hard.

-I have to finish this report before the weekend. I'm really worried about it. For the last fortnight I've been working 12 hours a day.

- That's obviously why you're getting the headaches. I think you should see a doctor.

2 - Good morning, Mr. Gray.

- Good morning, Miss Rosetti. Are you all right? You're looking worried.

-Oh, yes. I'm fine, thank you. But I'm a little concerned about David.

-David Wheeler? Why? What's the problem?

-H e really isn't very well. He's been getting headaches.

-I would think he's been overworking.

- You're quite right, he has. He's been working 12 hours a day.

- Well, that might be the reason for the headaches. It's stress. Did you see that article in the newspaper yesterday?

♫ 3 -John why were you late for class? Did you get up late?

-No, I didn't get up late.

-Did you have a headache this morning?

-No, I didn't have a headache. I feel pretty good.

-Well, why are you late?

-Someone stole my car.

- Excuses! Excuses!

♫ 4 -Hello, Doctor Peters. This is Dave Martin.

-Hello, Mr. Martin. How do you feel today?

-Not so good.

- I'm sorry to hear that. What's the matter with you?

-I have a terrible backache.

-Do you have any idea why?

-Well, Doctor, I have no idea, but probably I have a backache because I planted flowers all day long yesterday.

-Do you usually plant flowers all day long?

-No, I don't. But I did all day yesterday.

-Do you want me to come and see you? Yes, I do.

-When can you come over?

-How about tomorrow at 9 o'clock?

-That's fine. Thank you very much.

-See you tomorrow.

-Good bye.

5 DOCTOR: Good morning. How are you?

PATIENT: Fine, thanks.

- So, if you're fine, why are you here to see me?

- I've got a headache. I seem to have it all the time.

- I see. Any other symptoms?

- Well, I've got a cough as well.

- Do you smoke?

- Yes I do. And I feel tired all the time.

- OK, let's have a look.

♫ 6 -Doctor Madden, this is Mr. Wilson.

-Hello, Mr. Wilson. How are you?

-Not so good, I don't feel very well today.

-I’m sorry to hear that. What seems to be the problem?

- I have a terrible stomachache.

-Do you remember what you ate last night?

-Well, Doctor, I think the reason for my stomachache is due to fact that I drank too much wine last night.

-Do you usually drink too much wine?

-No, I don't. But I drank all evening last night.

-Would you like to make an appointment? Yes, I would. When can you see me?

-How about 1 o'clock?

-That's fine. Thank you very much.

-See you then.

-Bye.

XI. I FEEL HAPPY!

SPEECH PATTERNS TO LEARN

I was the first to come here. He looks modest.

He was the first to recognize me. She looks shy.

She was the first to leave London. Betsy looks embarrassed.

Who was the first to greet him? Robert looks gloomy.

Who was the last to leave for London? Ann looks funny.

There is a little snow this winter. I feel chilly.

We have a little time. Robert feels guilty.

I’m afraid we have very little time. Ann feels well.

There is a little water in the glass. Jane feels helpless.

She said very little about it. George feels awkward.

I could hardly walk, so tired I was. The street is very quiet.

I hardly think they will go to Oslo. Our street is very clean.

Jo could hardly understand the foreigner. This street is very wide.

They hardly know each other. That street is very narrow.

She hardly said a word. The street is very noisy.
