I see you know the names of the holidays, like them and know where they are celebrated. But do you know how people usually celebrate them. Let’s play another game to check it up. Listen to some small texts and guess what holiday is this.
1) It is a holiday for children. Children make faces on pumpkins and put a candle inside. These pumpkins are called jack-o-lanterns. All children are dressed in costumes of ghosts or witches.
2) On this day sons and daughters visit their mothers and bring them flowers and little presents. The eldest son must bring his mother a good cake.
3) It is a joyful religious holiday when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. People began to celebrate it many, many years ago. They decorate the fir-tree, give presents to each other and sing carols.
4) This holiday is celebrated on the first of January. It is a favourite holiday for Ukrainian people but it is not so popular in England.
5) It is a real holiday for all pupils, their teachers and parents. On this day all the children from 6 to 16 go to school for the first time after their summer holidays.
6) This holiday is very special for every person – it is his or her very own holiday. Traditionally there is a party. Cake with the candles is the main part of festive dinner.
7) This is not an official or national holidays, but it is a happy little festival of love and friendship. It is widely celebrated among people of all ages on the 14th of February.
8) This is not a holiday but a very funny and merry tradition. It comes on the first of April. It is the day for people to play harmless jokes on one another.
