The endoplasmic reticulum forms a circulatory system in connection with the nuclear envelope, the Golgi apparatus, and the plasma membrane. This is the place of preference for the metabolic substances to circulate.
The Golgi body. Dictyosomes and flattened sacculi that are piled one above the other compose the Golgy body (complex). The sacculi produce the vesicles, which are formed by the appearance of local constrictions. The dictyosome is the constituent element of the Golgi body and was discovered in 1898 by Golgi himself. Its structure is the same all through. The vesicles, which are detached from the dictyosome, move in the hyalopiasm forming sort of digestive vacuoles called lysosomes containing digestive enzymes. Other vesicles form secretory grains, which move towards the plasma membrane and pour their contents outside the cell, thus playing a role of elimination. The dictyosome plays a role in cellular secretion and a role in intracellular digestion (figure. 19.4).
