Talk about the requirements to an ideal house

Compare the average Belarusian family and the average British family | Talk about the attitude of a housewife to the hardships of life | Talk about an older relative or someone you know who was brought up in a less privileged way than you were | Talk about the qualities a woman needed to reach the top in a male dominated profession in the early 50-ies | Talk about nationality traits as seen by the English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish |

Speaking about the house of my dream I can say that I take into consideration two possible options: the first option is a two-storey cottage in the suburbs of our capital and the second one is a three- or even four-roomed apartment in the downtown of a big cosmopolitan city.

Well, on the one hand, I’d prefer to live in a cottage because it is large and cosy. Besides, one can find it in a pleasant surroundings and it often has a nice view. However, a cottage may be located far from the city, so it is inconvenient to get to work or go shopping unless you have a car. In my opinion, the greatest advantage of living in a cottage is that you can have a marvelous garden full of fruit trees in it. On the other hand, I’d fancy living in an up-to-date flat with all the amenities at hand. I mean to say it must be handy for a supermarket, cinema, library, bank and a bus-stop so that I could easily get to work.

If you ask me how I imagine my ideal house I’ll answered that first of all it must be large, even huge, because I really loathe these cramped stuffy rooms like in most flats of our country. Secondly, it is supposed to have all the necessary conveniences such as good central heating, conditioning system, running cold and hot water, and to exclude the fire risk it must be provided with good electric wiring. It goes without saying that washing clothes, dishes and cooking—once laborious and exhausting—these everyday chores are now made quicker and easier with today’s appliances, such as a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a vacuum cleaner and a washing machine. Certainly, I’d like to have all these “quick workers” in my future house.

As for the decorating and furnishing I can say that for the walls I’d choose some light colors, and if I had o lot of money I’d certainly buy expensive comfortable furniture of a unique design. Above all I want to have a big LCD TV set and a modern computer, and the floors must be covered with warm sick carpets. In addition I’d put a lot of plants on the window-sills to create a homely and peaceful atmosphere.

It is obvious, that as a future housewife I’ll have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Besides, in most families it is the main meeting place and it usually appears to be the noisiest one in the house. That’s why in my future house this room should be spacious, light, well-equipped, and have a good-sized round table in the center. Moreover, I’d place a small TV set on the top of the fridge to enjoy watching favorite programs while cooking or eating.

I hope when I graduated from the university I’ll find a stable well-paid job and will be able to make this dream about my ideal house come true.
