Follow the right-hand corridor past the Hall of Heavenly Kings and the Guanyin Hall to arrive at the Jade Buddha Hall (admission Y10). The absolute centrepiece of the temple is the 1.9m-high pale green jade Buddha, which is seated upstairs. Visitors are not able to approach the statue, but can admire it from a distance. Photographs are not permitted.
Ancestral Hall
On your right as you exit the Jade Buddha Hall is the Ancestral Hall, where Buddhist services are held. Heading back towards the entrance will then take you past a similarly elegant jade reclining Buddha, opposite a larger copy made from marble.

M50
Chinese contemporary art has been the hottest thing in the art world for over a decade, and there’s no sign of the boom ending, with collectors around the globe paying record prices for the work of top artists. Beijing may dominate the art scene, but Shanghai has its own gallery subculture, centred on this complex of industrial buildings down dusty Moganshan Rd in the north of town.
Although the artists who originally established the M50 enclave (M50 M Wushi Chuangyi Chanye Jijuqu) are long gone, it’s worth putting aside a half-day to poke around the galleries here. There’s a lot of mass- produced commercial prints (especially in buildings three and four), but there are also some challenging, innovative galleries if you’re willing to look for them. Most galleries are open from 10am to 6pm; some close on Monday.
