I. Revise all the words and word-combinations from the list of your active vocabulary:
a) Insert the missing prepositions:

- the place where smb/smth is;
- to stay somewhere as a guest longer than you are wanted;
- to arrange to do smth or arrange for smth to happen at a particular time;
- ambiguity, vague and indirect statements;
- to take a large part of smb’s attention or time so that they are unable to deal with other people.
d) Replace the underlined phrases with the synonyms from the list of your active vocabulary:

e) Give antonyms to the following:
- systematic, deliberate, planned;
- to make, put out, release a statement;
- to be within smb’s power, to be understandable / comprehensible;
- not to make use of smth, to shy away from, to shrink from;
- to criticize smb/ smth, to make / pass judgement;
- to place / put obstacles in smb’s path / way;
- to be in earnest, to mean smth;
- to hold in, to restrain / suppress emotions;
- to change for the better.
f) Replace the underlined phrases with the antonyms from the list of your active vocabulary:
1. She kept hold of the child’s arm so that he couldn’t get away. 2. Your recent work has not be en up to your usual standard. 3. All building firms are subject to tight controls. 4. This great Victorian house will be preserved intact and opened to the public. 5. g) Make up your own English sentences with synonyms and antonyms of the words from the list of your active vocabulary.
