My study at university.
Vocabulary and comprehension practice
Read the text and write about your working day.
My working day
It is my little sister Masha who usually starts a day at our flat. She is up and about long before my alarm-clock goes off.
I am a very sound sleeper, what my sister calls a sleepy-head. On week-days my working day starts at 6.30. If it is spring or early autumn I jump out of bed, run to the window and open it wide to let the fresh air in. The bright sun and the singing of birds set me into a cheerful working mood. In winter I am not so quick to leave my bed, and I bury my head under the pillow pretending not to hear the alarm-clock. But all the same it is time to get up and start getting ready for a day’s work.
It doesn’t take me long to do my bed and to get washed. At 7 o’clock I’m through with my shower and ready to have breakfast. Breakfast, as doctors say, must be the most substantial meal of the day. But I have neither time nor desire to cook it, so I just gulp down a cup of coffee and eat some sandwiches.
I leave the house at twenty minutes to eight. I live quite near my university. It takes me about ten minutes to walk there. On my way tothe university I often meet my friends and we go on together.
Classes start at eight sharp and last till two. I usually have 4 classes a day. The breaks are not long. That’s hardly enough to have a short snack in the canteen but I manage some times.
I am back home at about 14.30 p.m. As a rule, I have dinner at once for I’m awfully hungry after classes. I usually have a three-course dinner consisting of a plate of soup, some meat course with vegetables and a cup of tea.
Then I clear away the dishes and wash up. After dinner I have a short rest reading or watching TV or listening to music. Sometimes if the day was especially tiresome I may even have a short nap on the sofa.
When I feel rested I tidy up the flat and do some shopping if there’s any need to. Then I sit down at my writing-table to do my homework. It usually takes me about 3 hours and a half to get everything ready for the next day.
In the evening I like to take a stroll round the neighbourhood with my friends if the weather’s fine. Then after a light supper I read for an hour or so before going to bed.
