Volunteers assist children from a variety of disadvantaged backgrounds including rescued child laborers, abandoned street children, disabled children, children from troubled families, those who have suffered abuse, and orphans. Volunteer tasks may include assisting the organization with fundraising, supervising the children’s play, developing activities and workshops, or supporting families from low-income communities.

 

Duration of the project: The program will run for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 6 months. The program is running throughout the year.

Orientation: Orientation meeting will take place in Nairobi before proceeding to the project.

Accommodation: At a host family. Please note that you will share the typical living conditions of a Kenyan family. There will be electricity, but no shower and pipe water/taps at the accommodation. Volunteers will be using buckets for bathing. Water will be boiled for drinking purposes and those who prefer can buy bottled water.

Location: Kitale Town is located in the western part of Kenya, approximately 8 hours drive from Nairobi. Transport to the project will be by public transport. Post Office, Banks (ATMs), Internet and other social facilities are located in Kitale Town.

Terminal: Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi

Age range: 18 and over

Participation fee: 900 Euro for six months and 600 Euros for 3 months

GVDA:MLTV18: Kipepeo Community Empowerment Program is a community Based Organization initiated in October 2009 to help spearhead community driven development initiatives and enable needy community groups participate in integrated development to achieve quality livelihood from; orphanage and rehabilitation of street children’s, support vulnerable children, voluntary work to various community projects, Community Savings and loaning, HIV/AIDS trainings & awareness Campaigns, Capacity Building, Organic Farming, Fish Farming, Clay Works, Computer Services and Eco-Tourism and Environmental Management.

The program is also designed to respond to Emuhaya youths’ needs and assets; the KCEP Project aims to empower youth to make sound career and life decisions as they transition from high school to the next phase of their lives. The project is also building the capacity of local institutions and networks to sustain the much-needed services that KCEP will provide. Specifically, the KCEP Project intends to offers youth a series of inter-connected interventions to: build skills, facilitate appropriate career choices, provide employment and/or income generating opportunities, bridge technical and university education opportunities and provide fun and safe spaces.

Vision: Improved quality Livelihood for orphans, street children and a Health, Empowered and self-sustainable community

Mission: To support orphans, vulnerable children and street children through a rehabilitation centre and basic necessities and facilitate needy community groups to participate in integrated activities to achieve quality livelihood.
