LINE GRAPH
ASSIGNMENT
As you can see from the graph, results have been good during the five-year period. We are
extremely satisfied with our growth in the area. Sales rose from just under £1m in 2004 to £3m in 2008 – that is an increase of 200%.
Looking at the trendin sales during that time, you can see that during 2004 they stayed roughly at the same level. Then, during 2005, they increased sharply to £3m. We continued to do well in 2006 when our sales reached a peak of over £3m. In 2007 they levelled off and last year dropped back to £3m.
The future of the USA looks very bright for us. We have got a new distributor there – a company with a nation-wide sales network. We estimate that sales will double, and even treble in the next two years. By the end of 2010 – this is an optimistic forecast – they should be in the region of £8.
Learn the rules of graph / chart description:

As you can see from the graph...
- Don't try to describe every detail. Look for significant features: the greatest increase or decrease, the shortest time period, the overall trend etc.
- Think about the clearest way to express features, e.g. in percentages or certain expressions.
- Don't speculate about reasons for trends. Stick to the facts.
- End with the comment on general trends and forecast for future (if any), e.g. The figures for the period suggest that... From the evidence we can conclude that... We estimate that sales will..
