4. Give your variant of translation:
a) In the passage outside Christine's dressing-room, a hand took his arm.
b) Erik is a clever man with ropes in the dark.
c) The room was all mirrors - walls, mirror, ceiling.
d)She wanted to scream but no words came. Then she found her voice again.
e) That was my first kiss from a woman.
f) My friend, you know the answers. Please, tell me. Are they alive or dead?
g) He didn't want to live any longer.
h) People screamed when they saw his face.
i) He wanted a woman's love.
j) So the Phantom was really a man?
k) And so he lived this strange life - half-man, half-phantom.
5. Write out all the words denoting:
a) parts of a human body:
b) pieces of furniture and parts of a room.
(use the materials of other chapters, if necessary).
Using these words describe a) person; b) a room.
Word formation
Conversion: crash, dance, kiss, laugh, torture, scream, whisper, joke.
Find the words in the text of the novel. Say what part of speech they belong to. Translate the sentences. Try to recollect some other words formed by means of conversation.
Activities
I. Rhetorical question. If implies direct appellation to the hearer's opinion. The speaker never doubts what kind of answer can be expected. The conclusion is left with the hearer. Of course I remember you! How could I forget you?
Give examples of rhetorical questions using the text of the novel.
