Appearance and character

They often say that clothes count for first impressions about a person, because our style, dress, appearance reflect our personality, world outlook, character and individuality, therefore people often judge someone by the clothes he or she wears. Should we do this? It is a very difficult and contradictory question, because, on the one hand, our clothes can say about us a lot of things, but, on the other hand, appearances are deceptive. Today our appearance has a great importance, because on it depends the way we will be accepted and the impression we will impress on other people.

On the one hand, a lot of people firstly pay attention to your appearance and then they start to analyze your personality. Furthermore, your appearance can repel people around you or draw criticism and negative reaction. You can be misunderstood and rejected by the society, even though you are extraordinary, interesting, merry, well-rounded and just a remarkable person. Your style and clothes can tell who you really are; so, the clothes can describe your personality, world –view, preferences, values of life, attitude to fashion, mood, and so on. No matter what you look like – a fashionable or tasteless person – a person must be accepted the way he or she is.

On the other hand, appearances are delusive, because a real person hides behind the clothes he or she wears. Many people want to differ from other people; some people have their own unusual style in clothes in order to be noticed by other people. However, a lot of people do not take any notice of the clothes which a person is wearing, because it is not important for them; instead of this, they notice his or her manner of speaking, way of behaving and bearing in the society. Moreover, they do not care how you look, because they understand that many people cannot afford to buy good, expensive and fashionable clothes. Besides, these people are well-bred, that is why they cannot judge a person by the clothes he or she wears. The clothes emphasize our individuality, but tastes differ.

In my opinion, we should not judge people by the clothes they wear, but the clothes can tell a lot of things about their personality. However, we should respect their choice in style of clothes and also in vision of the world. It is very important to support and take into account their point of view.

In conclusion, I want to say that we should not be obsessed with such small things as clothes, because life is unpredictable; so, if we pay much attention to such trifles as clothes, our life will lose any sense. We do not have the right to judge people, because everybody has his or her own world outlook and wants to look special and differ from other people. At present, people often judge each other by clothes, because if you look presentable you will be accepted seriously by society, otherwise the society will turn you down.
