Let’s talk about weather and climate. What is happening to the world climate nowadays?

The world faces the problem of global warming. It means that summers get extremely hot and winters are much warmer than in the past. The level of oceans is also going up. Scientists think that is the result of a greenhouse effect. This climate change is dangerous, because it can influence plants, animals and humans in a negative way.

Do you know anything about English climate and weather?

I know that climate in England is very changeable, the English even joke that they don’t have climate but weather. I wouldn’t call English weather “good”. It’s very damp and rainy. The most unpleasant aspect of English weather is fog and smog. They can even stop traffic.

People can’t depend on summer weather, so they plan to go abroad for holidays. Winters are also rainy, with little snow, and the English prefer to spend time at home, warming themselves at the fireplace.

I also remember that weather is one of the favourite topics for conversations. When the English meet each other, they nearly always make some comments about the weather to be sociable and to show their friendliness.

  1. What questions would you ask a British teenager about the climate and weather in his country?

    1) What climate does your country have?

2) What is the hottest/coldest month of the year?

3) Is there much snow in winter?

4) Are your autumns rainy?

5) Is your weather changeable?

  1. What can you advise a high school student, who wants to become a meteorologist?

If a person wants to become a meteorologist, I would strongly recommend him to pay attention to certain subjects. He should concentrate on geography, physics and chemistry. I would also advise the person to develop math and computer skills. He should not forget about foreign languages, because they can be useful in international contacts in atmospheric science.

  1. They say “Nature has no bad seasons”. What do you think about it?

I absolutely agree with this saying. Every season is good in its own way. Each person likes this or that season. It depends on his character and mood.

For example, Pushkin liked autumn. It is full of vegetables and fruit. Everything is bright and colourful.

Some people prefer winter with its fresh chilly air and white snow. Winter gives us a chance to enjoy sledging and skiing, playing snowballs and making a snowman.

Summer is the warmest season. It’s a wonderful time to strengthen your health. You can sunbathe and swim in the river or sea. My friends go hiking. In general people spend a lot of time in the open air. And all the pupils and students like summer, because it is a vocation time.

As for me, my favourite season is spring, especially the beginning. It is very pleasant to watch how the nature awakens from its long winter sleep. Everything around is green and fresh and full of flowery smell. Birds begin to sing and build their nests. Even people look younger and happier.
