Problem of violence in the modern world

Nowadays the problem of violence is very vital. Unfortunately it is common knowledge than more country develops the more problems it has. And one of these problems is violence. We can divide in some way the types of violence: domestic violence, criminality including delinquency, wars and terrorist acts as the main display of violence nowadays.

Domestic violence can be described as when one adult in a relationship misuses power to control another. It is the establishment of control and fear in a relationship through violence and other forms of abuse. Approximately 95% of the victims of domestic violence are women. Although the woman is usually the primary target, violence is often directed toward children as well, and sometimes toward family members and friends. Domestic violence can take many forms and can happen once in a while or all the time. Domestic violence can be of many types:

· Psychological abuse - this is when your partner keeps telling you, for example, that you are ugly, fat, stupid etc. It can also be if your partner emotionally blackmails you, for example, by saying "If you really love me, you would....."

· Social abuse - this is when your partner keeps saying in front of others, for example, how stupid useless, hopeless person you are.

· Financial abuse - this is when, for example, your partner never gives you enough money to feed and clothe you or your children; when you get no money for paying bills but you are expected to make ends meet. It is also when your partner forces you to hand over your money.

· Physical assault - this is when your partner uses physical force against you.

· Sexual assault - this is when your partner pressures or forces you to participate in any sexual activity against your will.

Criminality is another sort of violence, but in this type we can also include domestic violence, because in the modern society it is considered as a crime. It is often directed toward children. It doesn’t leave any choice to a child and provokes such phenomenon as delinquency. Bad education in the family leads to violence in schools, to a gang formation and sometimes to the racism. The last is the problem which affects all the multinational European countries. Racism is an act of aggression against a group of people or against one person because of his origin, color of skin, ethnicity or religion. These acts of racism lead very often to human victims.

Other types of violence are wars and terrorist acts. Today it’s difficult to find at least one country in the world, which is more or less safe from the standpoint of crime rate. For the last few years the terrorist displays in the West and in the East has several times increased.

For the last few years the number of purposefully organized and carried out explosions has grown for several times. The terrorists nowadays use modern arms, down to application of the radioactive and bacteriological weapon. We shall recollect at least the envelopes with “the Siberian ulcer” which held the whole world in suspense for a long time.

In structure of terrorist displays the number of violent actions which are directed against the big number of people increases, the character of the terrors becomes tougher (we shall recollect events on September, 11 in New York), and methods become more and more various.

The terrorism in Russia exists for less than 10 years. But the acts of terrorism are organized in the way that people live in a constant fear. Budyonnovsk and Kizlyar have shaken everybody in Russia. The explosions of houses on Guryanov and on Kashirskaya streets have shown that nobody can feel in safety even in his own house, but the most negative point is that the ordinary people have suffered. The capture of the hostages on Dubrovka is an impact on so-called middle class. The act of terrorism on rock-festival in Tushino took the lives of 17-years old, of those who were too far from the politics and they were not involved in the Chechen tragedy at all.

Nevertheless the Russian government tries to find the ways of resolving the problem. Recently it was decided to create the Center of struggle against the terrorism. This center was founded within the framework of the Central administrative department on prevention of organized crime.

From my point of view it’s possible to gain a victory in a struggle against the terrorism only if all interested countries will combine efforts and observe the following principles: - no surrender to the terrorists, and an absolute determination to defeat terrorism within the framework of the rule of law and the democratic process; - no deals and no concessions, even in the face of the most severe intimidation and blackmail; - an intensified effort to bring terrorists to justice by prosecution and conviction before courts of law; - tough measures to penalize the state sponsors who give terrorist movements safe haven, explosives, cash and moral and diplomatic support; - a determination never to allow terrorist intimidation to block or derail international diplomatic efforts to resolve major political conflicts in strife-torn regions, such as the Middle East.

Nowadays wars became a repercussion of terrorist acts. They have transformed from conquering or defending into response to terrorist. As for example the current war in Iraq.

To conclude on an optimistic note, one major aspect of advanced technology gives the democratic governments a potentially winning card in their battle against terrorist organizations. Whereas developments in terrorist weaponry and the vulnerability of modern complex societies help the terrorists, the development of sophisticated fine-grained computers and terrorism databases provide superb assets for the intelligence war against terrorism. If these developments are matched by greatly enhanced international intelligence sharing and counter-terrorism collaboration, they can lay the foundations of long-term success over terrorist organizations.
