Preface
Writing is a recursive process. Students should learn strategies for invention and discovery. Audience, purpose and occasion define all types of writing. Effective writing fulfills the writer’s intention and meets the audience’s needs. All teachers can use writing to improve content learning. Good writing skills are very important and should become an integral part of mastering English. Writing can take a variety of forms.
“Writing: from theory to practice” covers such types of writing as: discursive essay, opinion essay, argumentative essay (essay: for and against), review, curriculum vitae (CV), descriptions, narratives – stories, summary.
Each type of writing includes theory and practical tasks. The theory is provided to be used as a reference by students of the 1st-3rd courses of foreign language faculties. A variety of models (writing tips, outline) in which the theory is applied are followed by practical tasks to prove students’ writing skills focusing on register and style. Topics and ‘check your work’ reinforce students’ knowledge and remind them of the structures previously presented, thus helping them revise the writing areas covered in the recommendations.
The specimens of each type of writing will help the students to revise the material whenever it’s needed.
