Translation memory software

A translation memory, or TM, is a database that stores "segments", which can be sentences, paragraphs or sentence-like units (headings, titles or elements in a list) that have previously been translated, in order to aid human translators. The translation memory stores the source text and its corresponding translation in language pairs called “translation units”. Individual words are handled by terminology bases and are not within the domain of TM.Software programs that use translation memories are sometimes known as translation memory managers (TMM).

Translation companies and agencies

Translation agencies (or "translation companies") are businesses that provide the language services needed by firms that do business globally. Some translation agencies, known as "single language vendors", or "SLVs", work into and out of a single language, such as Spanish, French, Japanese, etc. Others, known as "multi-language vendors", or "MLVs" can take a text and localize it into a number of languages.

MAT and CAT

Localization

Language localisation, the process of translating a product into different languages or adapting a product for a specific country or region.

Internationalization and localization, the adaptation of computer software for non-native environments, especially other nations and cultures.
