If you want to send a letter through the mail (by post, to mail a letter) the first thing is to give your correct mailing address to those who will be writing to you. At the post-office you can send a letter by air-mail or by regular mail. You can also send parcels and different kinds of telegrams: ordinary, urgent or express. You can also buy stamps, post-cards and envelopes from the post-office (or from a slot-machine).

Every city has a mail post-office and several full-service branch post-offices. Mail is delivered to the post-office boxes as it is sorted.

Regular post-offices have small, locked boxes that can be rent­ed to receive your mail. To apply for a post-office box, go to the nearest post-office, bring with you some piece of identification that has your address on it. When you are assigned a box, you will be given the combination to the lock. Mail can then be sent to you in care of the Post Office Box (P.O. Box) number, station, city, state.

Registered mail is the most secure means of delivering valuable mail. You receive a proof of mailing and the handling of the regis­tered articles is closely controlled from the point of mailing to the point of delivery. Registered post service is available to most for­eign countries.

There are size and weight limitations for sending packages through the mail. Ask at the post-office about rates and regulations. Use carton boxes or special mailing envelopes for packing. Do not enclose any messages.

If you want to send packages to foreign countries you must fill in certain form which the postal clerk will give to you. Be prepared to list the contents and to give the value of each of them.

Money orders (a safe way to send money through the mail) can be purchased at the post-office. There is a small fee, depending on the value of the money order.

Telegraph

To send a telegram or a telex message, call Telegraph Compa­ny dialing the toll-free telephone number. Tell the operator the name and address (including the country) of the person to whom you are sending the telegram. Then slowly repeat the message. It is a good idea before you place the call, to write out the message, making it as concise as possible. You should also ask the operator to repeat the message back to you to make sure it was copied cor­rectly. Charges will be computed by the number of words in the message and the distance it must be sent. Telegrams or telexes can be charged to your telephone numbers. -..,-

Fairs and Exhibitions

 

In the commercial world today fairs and exhibitions play an important role. Every year a lot of international, national and specialized exhibitions and fairs are held in different countries of the world. The number of countries and companies who take part in them is growing from year to year and the scope of fairs and exhibitions is becoming larger.

International trade fairs and exhibitions today fall mainly into two groups: specialized, concentrating on products of a particular industry or group of industries, and general, covering many different fields. Lately business information exhibitions have gained recognition too.

The display during these exhibitions includes a wide range of exhibits which show the latest achievements in different fields of industry, science and agriculture of many countries. They offer exporters an excellent opportunity to show what they have for sale, to make contacts and to learn about a market quickly and easily. They are also an ideal way of advertising and sales promo­tion. At international and national exhibitions commercial centers are established where participants can negotiate the sale and the purchase of different goods. At many exhibitions there are stands9 and stalls selling" all kinds of goods and exhibits to numerous visitors.

A fair or an exhibition is always an event which attracts serious businessmen and the general public alike. Every day halls are crowed with visitors, business talks are held, a lot of transac­tions are negotiated and contracts are signed.

Fairs and exhibitions are usually held under various mot­toes: «People and Progress», «Peace and Progress Through Economic Cooperation» and so on.

International fairs and exhibitions pave the way for the con­solidation of friendship among countries and nations. Indeed all participants along with showing the best they can offer, try to give visitors a good idea of the country's way of life and tourist attractions.

Our country is a regular participant of almost all interna­tional fairs and exhibitions and has been host to a growing number of them.
