ECES Courses
Rules and Instructions
East and Central European Studies (ECES) Program at the Faculty of Arts
What are ECES Courses?
As a Faculty of Arts student, you may sign up for ECES courses in addition to the courses offered within the other departments at the Faculty. Students are strongly advised to enroll in courses from their host department and/or institute at the Faculty of Arts. However, if a student needs to take an additional course or a course not offered by his/her department, then the student may enroll in up to two ECES courses.
The East and Central European Studies (ECES) Program is a special study abroad program designed for international students generally from North America. Courses are worth 6 ECTS credits and are taught Monday through Thursday. Course meet either once (180 minutes) or twice (90 minutes each) a week. All courses are taught in English.
Language Requirement
In order register for ECES courses, students must be fluent in English. If a student needs assistance in determining his/her language proficiency, then please contact Samantha Reynolds, ECES Program Coordinator, in room 128 (International Office).
During the first two weeks of class, the instructor has the right to recommend to the ECES Program Director a student's removal from an ECES course if his/her language abilities are deemed insufficient. A student will not be able to continue the course if the ECES Director approves the instructor's request for dismissal.
Course Availability
Students may enroll in up to two ECES courses beginning February 7, 2012. However, spaces are limited and fill up quickly.
Students may register for ECES courses if:
· You cannot register for more courses within your host department
· You are fluent in English (written and verbal)
By signing into ECES courses, you take responsibility to read and follow all of the rules and procedures listed on the ECES website: http://eces.ff.cuni.cz
How to Register for ECES Courses
ECES uses a separate system for course registration on their website: http://eces.ff.cuni.cz. These ECES courses are not available in the IS system.
1) Beginning February 7, 2012 you may sign up for ECES courses. You may not sign up for courses that have “department“ in the title. These courses may be found on the IS system.
2) You first need to register at http://eces.ff.cuni.cz/registrace.php using your name, surname and birthdate; then you can sign up at http://eces.ff.cuni.cz, after logging in.
3) The last day to add or drop a course is Sunday, March 4, 2012 by midnight. After this date, course registration is closed and students may not register for ECES courses. However, if you stay signed in the course, it will be listed on your transcript. If you decide not to attend later than March 4, you will receive an F due to the unexcused absences.
4) If any problem with registration occurs, please ask the International Relations Office (main building, room 128) and your faculty coordinators will fix it. For other info about ECES please see http://eces.ff.cuni.cz/, contact Samantha Reynolds (samantha.reynolds@ff.cuni.cz) or Dasa Ejemova (dagmar.ejemova@ff.cuni.cz).
