Beatrice only wanted peace and quiet.

"Really I hate women," she said. "They're so unreliable; they're so malicious."

Beatrice was spreading butter thick on the delicious hot bread (Беатрис намазывала масло густо = толстымслоем на вкусный горячий хлеб), covering this with jam (покрывала = мазала это /сверху/ джемом), and then pouring the thick cream over all (а потом наливала поверх всего /этого/ густые сливки).

"You'll kill yourself (ты убьешь себя)," said Frank.

"I don't care (мне наплевать)," mumbled Beatrice with her mouth full (невнятно произнесла Беатрис с полным ртом; mumble — бормотание, нечеткоепроизнесение).

"You'll put on pounds and pounds (ты наберешь много фунтов: «прибавишь фунты и фунты)."

"Go to hell (иди к черту; hell — ад)!"

She actually laughed in Frank's face (она фактически смеялась в лицо Фрэнк). My God, how good those croissants smelt (боже мой, как хорошо пахли те круассаны)!

"Beatrice, what are you doing?" she cried in her deep voice.
