Chapter Twelve

Van stopped at the video store on her way home from work after picking up some groceries. Cara would be arriving by six-thirty, after she worked out. Van had asked her to spend the night, and Cara happily agreed with her.

As far as Van was concerned, she'd move Cara into her place immediately, but reason intervened. She had fallen madly in love and was enjoying every minute of it. It took her an extra half hour in the morning to get ready for work, due to sharing kisses with Cara, as they showered and dressed. Cara's teasing personality, and affection was very appealing. They had parted with a long kiss, a hug, and promises to call each other.

Van entered her condominium, dumped the groceries off in the kitchen, and headed into the bedroom to change. Cara was due in twenty minutes and she hadn't even started dinner. Throwing on a pair of leggings and a sweater, she dusted her place quickly, and then began preparing a very simple dinner.

The security buzzer rang and she buzzed Cara before going to meet her.

"Hi."

"Hello." Cara's shorts and tee shirt made Van grin. "Don't you look cute?"

Cara grinned as she hugged Van tightly. "Cops aren't supposed to be cute. I came straight from the gym."

"You're a very cute cop, and I'm not complaining." Van laughed and kissed her thoroughly. "Come on in and put your things away."

Cara and Van headed for Van's bedroom where Cara put her things in Van's chest of drawers, before she joined Van in the kitchen. With kisses and conversation, the two finished fixing dinner, and ate at the kitchen table. After cleaning up, they headed for the living room to watch a movie. Snuggling together on the couch in front of the fireplace, they started a video.

It was amazing to Van that they were so comfortable with each other. There were no uncomfortable silences or stilted conversation. Cara was such an open and honest person, that Van found it easy to talk to her about anything.

By movie's end, Van and Cara were no longer watching the video. Van was stretched out on Cara's body, where she lay on the couch, as they shared deep passionate kisses. Without a word, Van stood up and reached a hand out to Cara. Cara grasped Van's fingers and followed her into the bedroom.

Their lovemaking was slow and sexy, as they learned what each other's body craved. It was several hours of intense pleasure, before both were exhausted. Cara now leaned against Van, as they lay side by side, talking.

"I need to finish Christmas shopping tomorrow night."

"I have a client meeting until seven, so I won't get home until eight. Would you like to stay here tomorrow night?"

"I would love to, but are you sure? That's three nights in a row. You might get sick of me."

"Not a chance. Is it a problem with you?" Van had heard the indecision in Cara's voice and it bothered her.

"Van, I would spend every night sleeping with you." Cara pledged, her voice and eyes serious.

"I would love that." Van smiled. "So, are you staying here tomorrow night?"

"Yes."

"Good."

"I love how we are together. I want this relationship to work. Not just in bed, I want to share your life with you."

"I want that, too. For the first time in my life, I feel like forever after is a possibility."

"It is." They shared a gentle kiss, and then snuggled up against one another, and fell asleep.
