Reading

Jason lives in a big house near the sea. Now, that’s not really unusual, is it? A lot of people live in big houses. But Jason’s house is very big! There are 20 bedrooms, two kitchens, a big dining room for forty people and a swimming pool too! I’m sure you’re thinking Jason has got a very big family. But you’re wrong! Jason lives in a hotel.

Jason’s mum and dad are the owners of The Jackson Star Hotel in the lovely seaside town of Barnaby. A lot of people go there in the summer for their holidays. And a lot of them stay at Jason’s hotel. It’s very popular! Jason’s family live in a small flat at the top of the hotel. Every day Jason gets the bus to school. His mum and dad work in the hotel.

So, do you think Jason likes living in a big hotel? Here is what he says:

Jason: Yes, I like my room. It’s very high up, and from one window I can see all over the town and from the other window I can see the sea. That’s great. It’s also good for my friends. They like staying here because the bedrooms are nice and comfortable, and we get very, very good food! I like the people too. A lot of them come from different places in the world, and it’s interesting to talk to them.

But is there anything he doesn’t like?

Jason: Sometimes, in the winter, there aren’t a lot of people here. Then I sometimes get frightened at night. It’s big and empty and it’s like a horror film!!

1 Jason usually eats in the hotel dining room. T/F/NM
2Jason’s mum and dad live and work in the same place. T/F/NM
3Jason lives in one of the main hotel bedrooms. T/F/NM

Hi Ben,

I’m writing this from sunny Spain! We (1) ___ here on holiday and we’re staying in a lovely small house near the beach. (2) ___ are only two rooms, so I’m sleeping in the same room as Brad, my brother! He is so untidy! I tidy (3) ___ the room every day, but then in the morning, it’s the same! We (4) ___ eat here because there isn’t a big kitchen. We can make coffee and breakfast, but for dinner we go to a nice restaurant about five minutes from our house. The meals are amazing! Mum is learning how to cook them! Every day we go swimming, and the water is lovely and warm. What a great holiday! I don’t want to come home! How’s school? (5) ___ you got lots of homework?! I’m sure you’re working very hard.

Love,

Angela
