Narrator On Saturday, Dan Harvey arrived at Heathrow on Concorde, and was met by Arnold Watson as planned. Dan, Arnold and Di spent a very pleasant evening together in London. The next day Peter and Sheila Benson took Dan to the Dog and Bone for lunch... Now it's Monday morning. The three man are in Peter's office finalising the contract between Benson Publications Limited and Superbooks Incorporated.

Dan Well, gentlemen, I guess we agree on everything.

Arnold Yes.

Peter Right.

Dan They say 'All's well that ends well'. And this ending's not just well... it's swell.

Arnold It's not an ending, Dan. It's a beginning.

Peter Well, it took you long enough to make up your mind.

Dan We made our minds up long ago, Peter. But we wanted the best deal possible.

Peter And you've got it. Five per cent of our shares and a thirty-five per cent discount on our books.

Dan It's a good deal all round... But, tell me something, Peter.

Peter What?

Dan No offence meant. But you Brits are sometimes a bit devious...

Peter Devious? Bensons? Never. We're always quite straightforward.

Dan So how come you took me to the Dog and Bone?

Peter Didn't you like it?

Dan Sure I liked it. I'd like to go there again, sometime. But it was rather symbolic, wasn't it?

Peter Symbolic? Symbolic of what?

Dan Well, you have the contract – the bone – so that makes me the dog that's after it!

Arnold Ha, ha. Some dog! A lion, more likely!

Peter Ha, ha, ha.

Dan Ha, ha, ha.

Peter I'll have a bone to pick with you if you don't sign it!

Dan With pleasure. For Superbooks, Dan Harvey. There.

Peter And for Bensons... Peter Benson. That's it… Excuse me. I don't want to be disturbed.

Angela I'm sorry, Mr Benson. It's your wife. She insists on speaking to you.

Peter OK. Put her through... Sheila?

(sobbing)

Peter Sheila! What's the matter?

Sheila Oh, Peter, it's Andy.

Peter What is it?

Sheila He's at the police station. He's been arrested. Drugs, Peter, drugs.

Narrator So, first Andy had the car accident and now he's been arrested on a drug offence. I wonder, was he taking drugs or selling them? In either case, he seems to be in big trouble.

Episode 9

Andy's Bad Dream

Narrator The police found a small package under the front passenger seat after Andy's car accident. The package contained a white, powdery substance which was sent for chemical analysis. Subsequently, Andy was arrested, released on bail and then found guilty of possessing drugs. He received a fine of £200 and a six months' suspended jail sentence. After the hearing in the magistrates' court, Peter took Andy for lunch in a quiet restaurant.

Peter Look, son. I want to get to the bottom of it.

Andy I've already told you everything I know.

Peter Well, let's go through it all again... How did the package get into the car?

Andy Honestly, I've no idea, Dad. I didn't put it there.

Peter The police and the magistrates thought you did.

Andy But I didn't. I never saw it until I was arrested. Don't you believe me?.

Peter Yes, I do believe you, Andy. I know you wouldn't lie to me. So we must discover she truth.

Andy I don't remember a thing before I was pulled out of the car.

Peter You must remember something. Where did you go that evening?

Andy My mind's a complete blank. The only thing...

Peter Go on. What is it?

Andy It'll sound silly.

Peter Never mind. Tell me.

Andy It's like a bad dream. A nightmare. I can see a woman's face...

Peter What does she look like? Can you describe her?

Andy Short, dark hair, a rather big mouth... and tinted glasses.

Peter Is she tall, small, fat, thin, pretty, ugly? What's she like?

Andy I can only see her face. Rather attractive, I'd say.

Peter OK. Then where was she?

Andy I've no idea. At least, I'm not sure...

Peter Yes, yes, go on.

Andy I have a feeling we were on a boat. But it's all very hazy.

Waitress One onion soup...

Peter For me, please.

Waitress... and one minetstrone.

Andy Thank you.

Peter Do me a favour, Andy. When we get home, write down everything you can think of about that evening. Dreams and all...

Andy OK, Dad... And thanks. I really am telling the truth.

Narrator What do you think? Is Andy telling the truth? Peter certainly believes him, doesn't he?
